    D4 factory fit SatNav..

Looking at getting a my10 D4 and have seen a couple with the factory fit satnav and reversing camera.... Is it worth paying a premium for a car with this fitted? Does it offer any other features over the standard D4 smaller screen, that I should be aware of. I do intend taking the D4 off road, so will the terrain response info on the screen really make a difference, or is it just a gimmic?

    Cheers

I would say definitely worth the extra money to have the larger screen and sat nav. But it's really up to personal opinion

I've got both. I agree that the larger screen is better IMOH. Regarding the Terrain Response display, it shows a number of functions - wheel orientation and attitude is one that may be handy to some people if for example your in a situation where you've been spinning the steering wheel back and forth and want to be sure which way the front wheels are pointing. Another one was how much the center diff lock was engaged - 3 phases. Can't remember the other stuff and my car's at the dealer for a minor fix so I can't look ATM. Overall you could say it's a nice to have toy but not essential. When I get the car back I'll have a look and let you know.

    Hi,

I've a MY10 SE that I'm about to sell as I have just purchased a MY13. The MY10 has the integrated SATNAV and the MY13 does not. I would have preferred to have everything integrated again but couldn't get the right combo of exterior and interior colour with the options I wanted. :-(

However, there is a bit more to it.

In order to support SATNAV or Reverse cameras the car must have a Harmon and Kardon sound system. This 'package' comes with a larger Multi-Functional Screen..... or so I believe. I think that package brings more functionality than the smaller screen.

So if the car you are looking at has the smaller screen, it lacks more than just visual functionality .... if that matters to you. I don't know how good the standard sound system is.

My new car has a reversing camera and a H&K sound system. Whilst that is good, it presents a quandary. If it had the basic screen, I believe that there are lots of SATNAVs on the market that will give all sorts of extra benefits. However, I would like to fit mine into the car. If the non-OEM SATNAV cannot replicate what the H&K system, plus Multi-Functional Display can do ..... well that could be an issue.

I need to look around and see what's available and to work out what I would gain or lose with a non-OEM SATNAV screen. In hind-sight .... I've never used the terrain response system screen whilst off road.

That probably doesn't help .... LOL.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Personally I don't think satnsv is worth it. It was top of my list when i bought my MY12. But it is the worst satnav I gave ever used. I now just use my phone. The satnav takes too long to type in addresses, you cant change address whilst moving, and the routes it chooses are terrible. The final straw was when it wanted me to perform a u-turn on the harbour bridge. I have complained to LR and the car has been back to the dealer twice to try to rectify it. I have been told there is nothing more that can be done. There is also a thread on disco.co.uk. I love my car, I just can't understand why they would cut corners on the satnav.

I have one with nav due to wife saying reverse camera mandatory. Nav has been fine for me neat features like "need more fuel to get to destination" is nice. Also use the off road mode and you can leave "bread crumbs" while you explore , proved useful a couple of times. Also has a big screen compass.

Biggest issue above about 5km/h can't enter addresses. Funny since you can play with every other option which are just as distracting as entering addresses. I'd pay money to change it but nothing has been forth coming.

Hi Jammers, I didn't know the factory version had a breadcrumb option,
I must check the handbook again!
In regards to the SE Tech Pack, I do really like the HK sound system, rev camera and the extra bits of info provided with the bigger screen, yes agree the Nav can be a little frustrating at times, but overall I would take this option every time.

I can't compare my LR SATNAV to non-OEM systems as I have never used one. However, functionality wise, it poohs all over my wife's (much newer) Merc SATNAV. It is freakin terrible ... with a stupid 'mouse' setup. It is much faster when you use voice command but even then I can set mine easily twice as fast. I believe BMW and Audi have a similar 'mouse' based approach.

It certainly does have the 'Breadcrumb' feature in my MY10 SATNAV.

Daryl.....have recently purchased my own my10 D4 3.0 HSE - love the car and the 4th Disco I've owned. The integrated information center is a must for me. All the integrated features are there as mentioned in earlier posts and it all works seamlessly, stereo, iPod, 4x4 info, phone system etc etc. The Satnav may not be the best....but it gets you there, has a number of other fancy features around views available, time remaining and fancy compasses.

But...beware, to update the MY10 model requires the dealer to update the onboard hard drive - an expensive removal process - whereas the later models are updated via USB connection, a simpler and cheaper activity....I'm still running an old map until I have a spare $5-600!

    Col.
