May or may not be related - but shortly after taking delivery of my D4 (2.7 TDV6), it started shoving out black smoke on accelleration. Easily noticeable in the mirrors, both day and night, and was worse if you booted it up a hill.

Took it in to the dealers - they said that it had "lost a plug from the air chamber" - buggered if I know what air chamber they were talking about.

Anyway - there was no "plug" in stock in Australia, so they got one in from the UK - took about a week. They called me in when they had the "plug" - fitting it took them about 10 minutes - and I have not had a problem since.
    Cheers .........

I'd be interested to know what you paid for said 2007 SE TDV6 with 128k on the clock.

    Thanks

    hey basil

As it so happenes heading up the the riverland this weekend pulling the camper trailer. so it will have a good run. Will keep an eye out for any excessive smoke though i think i may have been panicking over nothing i think sinistr may have hit the nail on the head.

was driving behind a very new D4 diesel last night and on take from lights i could visibly see black smoke coming from the exhausts. basically any time he accelerated i could see black smoke.

noticed it on a lot of new diesel cars of same size.

guess it's just what they do. so when you boot it there will just be more of it.

I've spent a fair bit of time following a 3 litre sdv6 RRS. I can see a faint black puff on hard acceleration but that's it.

To tune that out you end up with long turbo response times as you have to make fuel follow boost. So they fit DPF instead to meet emissions standards and driver expectations.

Clean the MAP sensor and as others have said - check the intercooler hose. I find you also get more smoke when booting it - after it has been run gently for a while. That is pretty normal.
