    19" Tyre Pressures

    I'm interested in opinions on tyre pressures for the 255/55/19"s as I have just had the Cooper Zeon Ltz's fitted.
    Do you run them as per tyre placard from LR?
    I'm asking for general pressures for tarmac, beach, and gravel tracks just so we don't get too "bogged" down in this thread.

    As always, the answer to this question starts with "It depends"

    I have the same tyres (Cooper Zeon LTZ 19s) and I'm not very impressed. They are not wearing well and the side walls have taken damage. Thus you could reasonably say that this guy is running the wrong pressures.......

    But here goes:

    On the blacktop I use the tyre placard as a guide.
    Gravel I drop 10 to 20% and drop the speed by the same.
    Rock crawling 24lb warm.
    Beach or Sand varies depending on the sand. The really soft and dry stuff may need to drop to 10lb. Most sand is Ok at 15ish. Simpson Desert we ran about 20-22 but dropped to 12 to get up Big Red the hard way.

    I'm sure you'll get a feel for it yourself. Me, I have a set of GOE wheels and Bridgestones LT on order.

    For general purpose road use I have found 36 front and 40 rear works well. Minimises the road noise too.

    Thanks Fred and Willem for your feedback, Fred I will be ordering the same when the budget allows but in the meantime I just want to try and get the most out if these tyres I can and you guys are the pioneers so who better to learn from. Willem after a discussion with the tyre power manager we came up with 35F and 38B on the black stuff so surely we are on the right road, I mean track!

    Pump it!

    In a post 'far, far away' I made the following comment "I run my Cooper Zeons at 34psi on the front and 38psi on the rear which is a couple of PSI above the recommend pressures on the door sticker."

    Most of my driving is rural highway clocking approximately 130km each day with little or no short trips and the vehicle lightly loaded. I have also rotated the tyres each 10,000km including the spare.

    I am about to replace the Coopers after 54,000km and they have around 3mm left on them. I did not get quite the estimated kms but I think all in all they have been O.K.

    The pressures mentioned are what I have used for 'on road' work and the tyres have all worn evenly and ride well. When on good dirt roads I don't change the pressures at all but when on rough dirt roads or off road on rocky ground or sand I drop the pressures by 4psi.

    Obviously when the vehicle is loaded up or I am towing I increase the pressures and usually go with the plated inflation numbers as a start point.

    That said I was taught many years ago to be reasonably conservative with my scrub adventures so I would not call any of my dirt road or off road work, heavy.
