River Island of Wombeyan Caves Road... I understand it's where LR holds it's experience days.

I bought my D4 last November and a one day LR training course was included. It is run by a couple who also run a training and tag along touring company. The man is a "LR Expert". That is, he is recognised by LR as an expert and has been to the factory, on their test track etc. He is currently in Norway doing LR stuff. Anyway, the course was held at a Naturist Reserve (well away from the actual camp ) off Wombeyan Caves Road and we did a river cross as part of the day so you're correct about the general location.

Just Googled River Island and there is a River Island Nature Retreat so definitely the right spot.

Hi letherm. I enquiried about training days from my dealer when I bought a year ago in Alexandria and they couldn't recommend any. Can you share the company and what you thought of the day? Cheers

The training mentioned above is from John and Julie at
    4WD driver training

Purnell Motors offer a day trip/introduction to your D4/RRS/RR - as a bonus thrown in with new purchases. (Well, they did when I bought my D4).

For the record, it is on the property next to the "nature reserve" and also they have no affiliation with LR at this time, as far as I know. I did hear they were trying to get LR Experience in Australia - but that is an expensive idea.

Jonesy63 is correct. I bought my D4 last November from Purnell Motors and the course was a freebie. I was pleasantly surprised.

On the training day a Toyota turned up at the spot where we were and John said that the guy owned the Naturist Retreat and that John and Julie leased the area from him for 4WD training. John did say that he and Julie were trying to establish LR Experience as Jonesy63 said. Not sure about the exact connection to LR but I got the distinct impression that he was linked to them - might be wrong though. He's in Norway at the moment - something to do with LR. He has been around the Solihull ??? factory and on the test track.

As to the day - it was more a get to know the abilities of the vehicle and how and when to select the appropriate terrain response settings. We did rock crawl up and down slopes sometimes using command shift, sand driving and water crossing as well as learning how the vehicle smarts are used. It wasn't a heavy duty 4WD training course as such but was very helpful especially for someone with a LR for the first time. I had a Pajero before and have a reasonable amount of 4WD experience but was happy that I went as I learnt a lot about how to use a Disco properly. They did have a Disco themselves. Maybe you could contact them and find out whether you can tag along to one of the 1 day events and/or do a "normal" training course. At least they would know what they were talking about when it comes to a LR vehicle.

If you like I can forward the e-mail they sent to me. If so, PM me with your e-mail address and I'll forward it to you.

John definitely did run normal 4WD course, or at the very least he used to, besides running tag-a-longs. Having spoken to him as he took me around the test track at Darling Harbour some years ago in a Disco, he used to be a TLCC trainer as well before striking out on his own.

John still runs 4WD courses and also Towing courses. Did a sand driving course with Getabout a couple of years ago.
Interesting to hear that Trivett don't off the course any more, I did a course at teh same place (diferent providers) when I got the D3. Had to chase tehm to get on a course though.
    Cheers
    Mike
