buying used D3 - what to check for ?

    Hi all
firstly apologies if this is covered elsewhere but I've not been able to find it in the search.

I was wondering if there was anyone in forum who could give me a few pointers on buying a D3 (2008/09ish ). I don't currently own a LR but have spent some time in the bush in the government sponsored LR110 and I guess I grew attached to the brand back then. A new D4 is out of my budget for now so I thought a decent D3 could be an option. As most of these are hitting 100,000+km mark now I wanted to know what I need to be wary of when searching for a D3 (common problems) and what kind of costs I'd be up for wrt servicing in the coming years. Is there a link to the D3 service schedule? Any advice would be appreciated,
    Regards, B

    Hello bajabus.

I just bought a D3. I spent hours combing this site - there is so much here! I recommend looking at some of the earlier posts on the topic of buying a D3. If the forum search function doesn't work for you just Google "buying D3 and Aulro". There should be heaps of posts. This is what I did.

But briefly: the timing belt needs replacing a the 160k mark for the petrol V6 and TDV6. Petrol V8 seems the cheapest motor to maintain (excluding fuel). The V8 also seems to be more economical than the petrol V6, but I guess that depends on your right foot.

Best advice I can give us do your research on the site, even down to trawling through page by page of posts. You will find so much info, and when you have a specific question that you can't find the answer to then post it.

    Good luck

I too just bought a D3 - 2009 V6 petrol SE with 67k on the clock. Never towed or gone offroad, in fact the tow hitch had never been out of the side storage panel.

Took me months to find it but worth the wait!

    CHeck here first:

in case you haven't read it as yet.

Heaps of info here as morpheus stated and if you can't find it just ask. Welcome aboard!
