Need more switches on D4 Console

Any of you added more switches to the D4 console ?

I must admit the LR don't provide much room for expansion. I am after putting at least six additional switches somewhere.

Do you have a solution ?
Hoping ppl on this forum will share what they have done, pretty pictures pls or links.

    Care to share ?

    Regards
    Tor

Tor, what are the switches for? Depending on what they are, people have preferred locations.

Currently investigating some options on this.

The recent school of thought, is to put them into the panel under the steering column. Just drill em in & be done with it.

Then, when you go to sell the car, just purchase a replacement panel, and clip it in.

There are other, no drill options also. In a thread in this section about installing a UHF, someone linked to a mounting panel that clips on. That looks interesting, and I will be investigating further.

My preferred option is this little unit Boat Switch Panel 12 Volt Membrane Panel Touch Control 6 Switch Panel Boat Marin | eBay

There is a 6 switch & 12 switch versions. They can be mounted on the dash with double sided tape. I believe we can extend the ribbon cable to be long enough to reach an area to house the box. The box contains the relays to switch the items you want.

The thin membrane ribbon near the switching panel can fit between the plastic joints of two panels.

I can also make a template for word so that we can make our on stick on labels for the switches. The switches have an LED to indicate the switch is on.

I Have contacted the supplier and they are getting some technical information for me.

I think this would look neat, but was wondering if there are better looking solutions out there.

Well I need to switch the following:
    1) Driving lights
    2) need to be able to switch video system cameras from caravan (3 cameras) to car (2 to 4 cameras)
    3) switch auxiliary power to the rear headrest screens for the kids.
    4) switch auxiliary power to the rear cabin and rear external light
    5) 2 spare - for what ever comes up.

Have you got any ideas ?

Must admit that does look good.
Only problem i see is the Driving lights as the unit is only rated at 10A per switch.
If you are using conventional H4 globes you could be in trouble.

Haven't you heard of a relay driving another relay ? no trouble at all, just drive another relay rated to the circuit you need - make sure it is well designed.

And if it's not you could just add another relay being driven by the 2nd which is driven by the 1st ;p

Sorry mate, what you have found is a "wee" bit better than what I would have suggested. Look forward to seeing how it all turns out.

For those interested in using the same 6 gang switch module linked above, the supplier has given me more technical detail.

Each circuit does have two lugs to connect to, so the two ends of the switch are exposed on the rear of the black box.
Circuits 1 to 5 are simply on-off relays.
Circuit 6 can be configured to on-off or momentary pulse action.

Circuits are only 10A rated, but don't forget that you can run larger rated relays from these circuits, for things light driving lights.

I am buying one and will be posting pictures of how it looks.

    Cheers
