Thread: Almost ready to make a move into a D4..... Again

Wouldn't the rear diff be an advantage for towing? My D1's rear auto locker certainly helps a lot towing our camper trailer up tricky tracks. It got us through the OTT towing our camper without getting stuck once, whereas other vehicles, not towing and without a rear locker, got stuck spinning wheels in slippery spots. Of course, I don't have traction control, so can't comment on that in the D4 with or without the locker.

If you do a lot of towing off-road, then you'll notice the difference (but far less so in a post 2011 LR) with a rear eLocker. The additional heavy duty components will probably provide greater peace of mind for those doing that sort of thing as well. For anyone else 2012 on, you'll be bending panels before you ever notice the difference between an eDiff car and one without.

    Cheers,

    Gordon

There have been incremental changes to the Terrain response over the last 4 years or so - the newer cars react a little quicker in Rock Crawl, although you have to be on some fairly rough terrain to see it.

Well, a buyer finally came along looking for a Hilux with the accessories I had fitted to mine and willing to pay the little more (in comparison) I was asking for it compared to a standard truck. So, finally it's time to make the move into a Discovery.

Last weekend the misses and I went to the local dealer so she could have her first test drive. I drove it out of the yard, found a quiet backstreet and gave her a drive. Within two minutes she smiled and said, we've got a problem...... I really like it!

Long story short I found one that ticked most of my boxes and have paid the deposit. Right now the car is on the Asian Vision (vehicle carrier) off the east coast of Victoria making its way to Sydney. Fingers crossed delivery will be before Christmas.

Well done Ben. I just read through this whole thread and that would have to be the most difficult D4 birth I've heard of [he says touching wood given that the vehicle is still actually on the high seas]

It was similar with my wife when we first went and looked at one in the showroom. She had a funny look on her face and said "wow, this is really nice" I knew we'd be getting one right at that moment.

    Cheers,
    Scott

Similar one in the yard here in Darwin that I have to drive past each day.

Enjoy it and hope it is worth the wait.
