    Pre warranty expiry check

    Hi

The warranty on my 2011 D4 TDV6 runs out in June. I don't need a service, but the dealer has said they can do a 'health check' although not sure how conflicted they would be?

What do people who are not mechanically minded tend to do in advance of their warranty expiring? Is it worth putting it through an independent for an assessment so I can go armed with a list to compare with whatever the dealer comes up with? If so can anyone recommend anyone in Perth?

Are there any things to pay special attention to?

    Cheers
    Darren

If you don't trust them, there are after market vehicle health assessments for a fee of approx $400. That might be an unbiased option.

    Darren,

Not sure where you are in Perth but some of us use Jorden Rovertech in Bentley. They know Land Rovers inside out so you can give them a try if you don't trust the other two. Kevin is the man!

Thanks - would be interested in getting a recommendation on a third party inspection. Looking at the websites, most seem to say they do 4x4s but would be good to use someone who has had some experience of Land Rovers and knows the areas to look at....

In case anyone is interested have been quoted $3600 by the dealer for a 2 year extended warranty through Allianz - supposed 'on special' for May only, down from $4100

    Cheers

Thanks - they did a pre- purchase inspection for me on a D3 a few years ago - was pretty informal though - might give them a ring and see if they will do a formal report.....

I would think it would be informal. You would be battling to find anything to write about on a well maintained 3 year old D4!! Most of the common problems seem to happen pretty suddenly in most cases.

If there was anything major the dealer should pick it up anyway. It is in their interest to do valid warranty work since they get paid by LRA for it and I assume they won't do it unless it is approved before they start, no matter who finds the problem.

Re your extended warranty, I look at it that you will probably need to pay about $4000 for common things that fail over the next two years and I doubt that the insurance will cover them all. I always think it is better to use the money to pay for the repairs yourself and take the risk that something major like an engine failure will probably not occur. So far in my many cars over the years there has not been such a major failure and I have never regretted not taking out an extended warranty.

I don't see an issue with taking to the dealer i assume you have used for the servicing for the life of your D4.
    1. They know the Vehicle/Product.
    2. They get paid to fix it under warranty.
    3. They have access to Technical Bulletins/Product fixes indy's don't. (Saving you time)

We offer a free End Of Warranty check & normally SMS our owners 2 months prior to expiring. This way if you need anything & it is Ex UK we have time up our sleeve to order components.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but provided the dealer is made aware of (and acknowledges) a problem prior to the end of the warranty it does not matter that the work is done afterwards. Waiting for parts etc does not affect the customer having the repairs paid for under warranty.

    Hi Fred,
The warranty period is 3yrs/100,000Km's. (Current vehicles)
Once your warranty expires that is it.
This DOES NOT mean that the dealer can't go into bat for you at your request.
Request is made to JLR & an answer is received in 3-5 days normally.

If there happens to be a matter that you & your dealer are working through then obviously already JLR would be notified by the service dept. hopefully

There are ways that your dealer can help.

    Hi Darren,

If you choose to go down this path, find a broker that can go to Allianz direct. Allianz underwrite the LR extended warranty anyway but it's not (the LR one) as comprehensive as the original new car warranty that comes with the car.

Allianz themselves offer a superior product for roughly the same amount of money than LR will charge you for 'their' extended warranty and is as close to a new car warranty as you will get.

The administration is a fraction more onerous as LR have to contact Alliaz for permission but LR in Brissy did all the legwork for me on the occasions I've used it.

Value for money? I've had to claim a couple of niff naff things ... value ~ a couple of hundred bucks. But on one very expensive occasion the oil pump leaked, which contaminated some belts and some suspension/steering parts if I remember rightly (due to the oil being sprayed around everywhere). Total cost for the pump and other affected bits was in the region of $3500.

Extended Warranty cost was redeemed in that single event.

    Cheers,

    Kev.
