I have tried starting the car a couple of times since yesterday without my foot on the brake, and its behaved correctly and not started.
When it happened yesterday, I had initially pressed start without my foot on the brake pedal to turn on the auxiliaries, as I was playing with a broken rear wiper. When I finished with the rear wiper, I then pressed the start/stop button again (without my foot on the pedal) expecting it to turn the auxiliaries off, but instead it started the car. So I stopped the car, and then started it another 3 or 4 times without my foot on the pedal. I'll try to reproduce the sequence of events this arvo to see if I can make it happen again. Maybe leaving the auxiliaries on for 10 or 15 minutes confused the computer and allowed the car to be started without the brake on ...

Get your brake pedal switch checked.
