Huh? Since when has the 8 speed been considered unreliable?

SubscriberTake the Redbook value of a similar vehicle, add half the retail value excluding fit costs of the accessories on the vehicle........sounds about fair. It won't be anywhere near $98000. You cannot to recover your full costs for fitting extras or accessories to a vehicle. If you take it to a car yard, they may not take any extra value at all into account.
However, in the end..........it is worth whatever someone is prepared to pay.

Plus he says it's been in the Dakar rally ??
Having spoken to the gentleman a few weeks back I got the feeling that some workshop had taken advantage of his desire to 'have the best' and they helped him spend lots of his money. He told me the mods had cost him $40k. ...

Thanks for the replys guys.
OK,its overpriced and the rims are possibly dodgy.
How much do the mods cost????.
ie fuel tank $1000,sliders $750 etc etc etc.
Trying to get a grasp on how much extra to set something like that up.
Cheers

To buy and have fitted most of that gear or similar quality gear but at a more reasonable cost would pretty easy end up around $20k. Then there is the higher spec HSE which comes with a e-diff, Logic7 stereo, vision pack with adaptive bi xenons and the extended warranty.
Is it a nice Disco? Yes it is a very good bit of gear with all the right factory extras and modded well for touring and off roading. It's a bit of a worry about the claims of all the power boosts from the piggy back module, who knows what is true there or if it is getting those numbers then how much stress has been put on the engine?
Would I buy it if I was looking for a later model Disco? Yes I would I reckon its a great vehicle with nearly all the mods that I like, but only if he was a reasonable amount more negotiable on the price, right now its near impossible to sell anything second hand unless its a give away. That HSE would be easier to sell if it was standard, the number of potential late model D4 HSE buyers out there who would want a heavily modded Disco is tiny compared to the number who would want a standard one and even standard ones are selling privately extremely slowly now unless they are give aways.
Cheers,
Terry

Hi Andy, the more important question I reckon is how much are all the extras you would want on a bog standard D4SE or HSE which you picked up for the right price? The question I ask with these cases is why should I pay what he wants me to pay for extras he chose that I wouldn't choose.
I want to take mine into the outback camping and so far Ive got a roo-bar, some under-car protection plating and a dbs. Haven't gone the rims yet, resisting that as long as I can.
Take the poor range from the small fuel tank, towing a camping trailer, let's say 500km. Not much but how often will you really need more? And when you do what's wrong with some jerries filled in the trailer for those times? Not saying an LR tank isn't handy and for some wouldn't the way to go, but I don't want to carry my spare on the rear all year round and they are exxy when you join the tank and rwc costs together.
If you find one with the kit you would put on yourself anyway, then it's a different story, that's a win, but otherwise you start with the stuff you need for your first camping trip 100km down the road and then you add as you decide what you need and what is important to you. In the meantime the hard-earned $$ are warm and snug in your wallet where they belong.
