Thread: D three fuel filter tips

Not sure about the early D3 fuel filter as the fuel filter changed with the 07MY, but the later one is technically not self bleeding - you use the valve up on the fuel rail with the ignition on to bleed off the air.

HOWEVER if you fill the new filter with fuel and don't spill too much I have found that bleeding is not necessary if you just run the fuel pump for 15secs a few times before starting.

I have not had an issue.

Make sure you get the right fuel filter for your year model as they are not interchangeable.

And make sure you fit it correctly (properly seated) as I have read that this is the cause of many a problem with fuel filters... someone who's changed theirs will no doubt jump in and give you the technical details...

My MY07 required no bleeding, just a couple of goes on the ignition without starting, and it fired up first turn of the key afterwards

My D4's was not pre-filled with fuel yet did not require bleeding. I did however remove it after initial fitment because I wasn't sure it was fitted correctly, being located in such an awkward spot amongst the dirt.

Is there a bleed on the earlier d 3 ? Of course of I can't start it
Now having changed the filter yes the connections on top are correct. It had the plastics diagram on the old filter showing connections.

Have you tried several bursts with the fuel pump?

Bleed is at the back of the engine towards the passenger side.
Looks like a big tyre valve.
Are you only turning the key to ignition on.
Don't turn to crank position if you are trying to bleed the system.
