Are you sure they are 255/55-18? They should be 255/60-18 to be the right size for a D4. Those tyres would be 1" undersized for your vehicle.

						G'day
Yesterday I fitted a new set of Scorpion ATRs on Compomotive 18'' wheels. Tyres are 255/60R18 with a load rating of 112H XL.
With these new tyres the Disco 4 rides much harsher than on the original 20'' Scorpion Zero (255/50R20 109Y), even with pressures down to 32/34.
Is the inner construction of a 112H tyre so much stronger than it it stiffer than a tyre with much less sidewall? Does anyone know?
Cheers

Dave, you're right, they are 255/60R18. I'll correct the original post. Thanks

The Pirelli ATRs were advertised as having stiff sidewalls for better handling. I found the 255/55-19 ATRs were harsh but had them fitted from new so had nothing with which to compare them. My next tyres were LT245/70-17 Yoko AT/S which were much softer riding, but taller sidewalls too so again no direct comparison.

Quite a while ago I put this exact problem up on Disc03 forum.
Most people do not agree but I found them to be very harsh compared to the wranglers as fitted originally to car. Only changed because of the tyre roar the wranglers get when worn. They seem a great tyre for everything except ride. They have either got a bit better with wear or I am getting more used to the ride. Still not happy with ride and have tried all different pressures. Tyres wearing very well have now got 40,000km on them and still look very good.
Has anyone put on tyres that ride better than the originals or just as good ?
Have you checked the tyre pressures?
In my experience many tyre suppliers are pretty enthusiastic about the pressure they inflate new tyres to.
maybe lower pressure would help?

I though my original Wranglers (original D4) were pretty good until they became very puncture prone at around 40% wear.
I swapped to ATRs and noticed that the tyres felt quite a bit stiffer than the originals but I preferred this as it felt more precise. These were 19s and I operated them at 40psi, as I'd noticed excessive outer-edge wear at placard pressures.
The ATRs have a much stronger tread block .... I've driven them over pretty sharp rocks with no chipping or cutting, stuff that would have punctured the Wranglers. I know this first hand as I got plenty of punctures with them.
I've heard, that although the sidewalls are not LT rated, they are still pretty tough .... so maybe the tread and sidewalls cause this ride issue.
I operate 18" LTZs on GOE rims when camping and dislike the bounciness of this sized tyre on the road compared to the ATRs.
Maybe it's just a preference issue.
