    Door seals / rubber replacement advice

    Preparing for a cape trip next year and started looking at the door seals on my 2.7 MY10 D4. Realised that the drivers inner door seal, right near where your hip would rub, is very worn. The passenger has some damage to the lower seal that is attached to the door itself (and the firm rubber strip on the bottom of the same door - like something was closed in there and them car driven off?)

    Anybody replaced theirs? Any advice? I have done basic water crossings and muddy trails without any problem of water mud ingress. I am balancing the ease/cost of making it as good as it should vs making it worse with a diy. Also some of those vids of the tele track indicate there will be a water crossing or two...

    Would suggest that a couple would be worth fitting for peace of mind and prevention.

    The main water entry if you stop in water is via the door drains. Door seals don't make much difference. However for minor crossings they keep out water a bit.

    Thanks Phil, so what would you suggest as the best way to block those drains as needed? Maybe some tape, assuming they are all on the bottom of the door?

    It's pretty hard to keep water out if you stop.
    The door drains can be left open if you make very sure the plastic film that seals the inside of the door under the trim is in good nick with glue all the way around.
    But really , they don't float very well and if you stop, the water is going to get inside surprisingly quickly.

    The main game is to not get stuck in water, and have your travelling companion ready to pull you out and have a snatch strap attached to the tow hook and inside being held by the passenger.

    I however would never take a D3 over Nolans brook although I met some guys in D3s who AFAIR are on this forum who did. They had the suspension risers. I chickened at the unnamed swamp just befor e Nolans in my V8 Rangie and then the next day found out 4X 200 Cruisers on a tagalong had been stuck in Nolans and were write offs.

    Thanks Phil, appreciate the info. I'd never heard of Nolan's Brook by name, but found this and it looks like it'd be a challenge if the water was a bit higher. At least he had it all set up right. Anyone know who makes the wading blind he has fitted?[ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3sDySo9Qh6A[/ame]

    If all seals are intact then supposedy it takes about 20 minutes for water to get through - so just make sure all are in place.

    My door seals were already gone in my car when i got it and it had only covered 37,000lm and from reading here they do not last long so I never bothered replacing mine.

    However if doing a trip liemyou are planning I too would get the door seal replaced - and check the door drains are all clear etc - make sure you do not dislodge the seals to stop water going in.
