    Supercharged Petrol D4 Write-up

Just came across the following in "The West".

    https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/mo...peal-of-disco/

Sounds like an interesting drive, if you don't mind the fuel bill.
    Cheers .........

If you can afford to buy an expensive car with a high performance engine, then you shouldn't feel the need to complain about fuel consumption. 11-12 l/100k is nothing to complain about anyhow. My scabby Falcon ute has consistently used 14-15l/100k in city service.

Read that Brian. Not as much torque as our oilers and a healthy appetite for PULP.
I bet they dont sell many in Australia.

True Andrew, but the engine is a full litre smaller in capacity than the Playdo petrol, kills it in power and torque, has an 8 speed box compared to the Playdo's 5 speed, and is 7 grand cheaper.

And there are plenty of Playdo V6 petrol's out there - I've had three myself. I quite liked the petrol Playdo to drive (and the company fuel card that came with them ). Going by the numbers alone, I reckon that this Disco would be a fun vehicle to drive. Used to love blowing away tossers in souped up V6 Dunnydoors in a 4WD Playdo - would be even more fun making them look stupid in a Land Rover.

The only thing that beats the Disco's in power / torque numbers of those listed is the Jeep. Don't know if you saw the black one downstairs parked near Brendan's new D4 - it's a bloody nice bit of gear - but at $94K and with that big yankee hemi V8 in it, it'd want to be able to go like the clappers. Not a vehicle I'd take offroad though - but Mick has just taken it up the Gibb River Road pulling a camper trailer.
    Cheers .........

June-July last year in the US, the Jeep with 6.4 litre Hemi was advertised at US$47000. Must be a bit of fat in a $94,000 deal.

I don't really understand the supercharged V6 petrol. It has less power and torque than the V8 it replaces with greater complexity and similar (only slightly better) fuel consumption.

I don't think Jaguar or Landrover offer the non supercharged V8's in any of their cars now.

That's correct. I think it is probable they dropped it in favour of the SCV6 as V6 sounds better environmentaly than V8.

... and it makes and even bigger point of difference between the RR Sport and Disco in engine terms.
