    Sand flag fitting

What would be a good way to fit a sand flag to the big standard front end of a D4, ie car without a bull bar, nudge bar etc.
is there something out there, or a good mounting spot that could withstand the expected stresses and strains of a 2.5m pole bending around in the wind?

    Sand flag fitting

Long rails and cross bars....But I wondered if the roof was a bit "far back" for line of sight once at 45degrees up a dune Sand flag fitting

I mounted mine on the roof rack. As it was shorter, it flexed less which probably equated to less stress. I don't think it was any less visible than the guys who mounted theirs on their bull bars. Also worked out cheaper as it was shorter than the others.

Yeah, might just do the roof thing. Turned up this bracket someone (on here?) already made, which looks like it could work well.

    Looks familiar
I would not recommend you fit a sand flag off such a bracket.
I'm sure it would not last with constant side wards movement of the flag above. I fitted my sand flag to my roof rack as well. Right up the front in the centre.

Fair enough. If the bracket was a bit wider, say 50mm x 5mm ali or steel bar, would that be a more robust bracket in the t-track for a flag? (The tracks are 35mm wide, external, best I can measure)
To mount otherwise, I 'only' have 2 crossbars to play with rather than a full rack or platform at the moment....

It is more the combination of the base, the actual track and the way it's fitted that would not cope with the stresses of the wombat holes you encounter in the deserts.

Not that I have had a look see,is there any way of bolting a bracket to the front recovery hook????
I dont like the idea of bolting it to the roof cross bars, they can create alot of force whilst waving around. The roof rack would be up for the pain I think.

You could mount the flag pole anywhere on a bar attached to 2 cross-bars not too closely spaced.
