    Redarc Tow Pro in D3

    Hi all,

I am looking to install one of these remote head electronic brake controllers into a D3.

Can anyone share a pic of where they have mounted the control dial? I have seen pics of mounting positions for a D4 but I am specifically interested in D3. Is there space on the light switch control area? In place of one of the 12V sockets? Steering column?

    Cheers,

    Matt

I just ordered one of these exact units and will be installing it in my D3 next week.

I have no idea where I will fit it but i'll be sure to take some pics along the way

    Tow Pro Switch position

    Hi Shorty,
I just installed mine last weekend. I put the control knob in the centre console on the angled section - its really easy to adjust while lazily resting your arm on the centre console lid.
Let me go and take a photo and I will upload it shortly - Matti

Ok Matt - sorry about the poor camera phone quality - Tow Pro D3 switch.jpg
FYI, I mounted the controller box in the rear quarter panel behind the access flap to the tow harness fuses. There is a strong steel bracket that the tow hitch is stored in (has a webbing strap you simply drill the rivet out of and discard) isn't used in my case. The bracket can be drilled and the tow pro screwed to it. The harness wiring in my case was sufficient as I only have a single axle braking setup. It has been working fine so far. The Redarc rep told me you can run the Cat 5 cable up to 10 metres from the tow pro unit. So I purchased a longer cable (4m) and ran mine from the rear and under the carpet beneath the passenger seat, under the cubby box and to the mounting point for the switch. You have to carefully line-up the drill hole because there is a corresponding hole in the cubby frame for the long towpro switch to fit into. The console cober simply unclips and you can do the marking and measuring and drilling outside the vehicle. Have fun. Matti

Did you wire the blue trailer power output wire from the controller to the brown only wire in the trailer plug connector? I followed the instructions on this forum and cut the brown wire, connecting the brown from the triler plug direct to the blue from the ebc. I thien joined the born from the grey plug to the black wire next to it and spliced them in. Went for a drive and 5 minutes in my dash lights up with all sort of system fault, suspension lowering, no abs, stability control off etc.... Turn car off and back on and its fine for another few minutes. When I remove my wire splicing together and only tap into the brown wire, no errors. I haven't checked if the brakes work yet..

Gazza, I followed the wiring instructions on this forum (including the diode) and it all went well for me. I will find my diagrams in the morning and sus out what you are alluding to with the "splicing". Cheers matti

This is where mine is positioned. I also find it is easy to access whilst driving!

    Tow Pro Mounting

    Hi guys
Exactly where near the steering column (and how) do you mount the Tow Pro controller in a D4? Is it obvious when you remove the plastic cover?
    Thanks

Rob, a mate of mine (with a D4) has the conventional redarc remote head installed in the little black panel that contains the light switch to the right of the steering wheel. Was installed in that location by the dealer, and looks very neat.
