....... Just been out and checked........
The fog lights can be turned on with either / or, side, main or hi.
So... Connecting the light bar via a relay to the fog light circuit and from there via a second relay to the hi beam circuit, means that the fogs and hi beam operate independently, but if both together, the light bar will come on... So saving wiring in a second dash switch and giving dash indication..

In operation, hi beam will have to be on, then the light bar can be turned on via the fog switch.. If it's foggy and hi beam isn't switched on, switching on the fogs without hi beam, doesn't turn on the light bar... In the same way to turn on the light bar, hi beam needs to be on (satisfying the police)

    Am I missing something ??

If your light bar is 55w or less I don't see the need for the "second relay". You would need to duplicate the 5 pin relay for the other fog light so that it also turned off when high beam is activated. If you run a pair of light bars you can feed each from seperate fog light circuits.

I want to fit one to my d3, but this seems to be more difficult than on older cars.

Mine is mounted under the roofrack.

These are old photos - the LED bar in these was stolen in Perth some time back. There's an identical replacement on there now, but the mounting is slightly more "secure".
    Cheers .........
