Have you got a factory fitted camera? The only thing David & I have not worked out yet (apart from the bendy lines) is getting the camera to activate on demand via the touch menu. It can only be activated by selecting reverse. With a caravan mounted camera I presume it would be handy to check behind at any time.
It appears that the lines are generated inside the camera module so you would not necessarily get the lines on a caravan mounted camera.
To install a switch to select camera inputs would be relatively easy. If I could select the camera "on demand" I would install a front looking camera for tight maneuvering etc.
Cheers,
Chris
Howdy Chris. Yeap, factory setup already there (HSE). I believe (but have not tried) that there is a way to select the rear camera to be on (displayed) from within the camera display page whenever you want. Just searched for the tread but did not find... will have another go tonight.

Go to the Special Features screen where the 4x4 Info button is. There should be a camera(s) button?

A quick further update to this. There can be an issue that the image on the screen is too bright. Refer this thread: DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Reverse camera image brightness.
Had update referred to in service bulletin applied by dealer yesterday and image is much improved.
Dealer notes:
Software issue in FCDIM
Updated software in FCDIM, ACM and AAM software

Now just to sort out the curving lines... hmm

One more addition to this. Using VIN for an MY14 fitted with the factory reversing camera (thanks Scott), I checked the camera part number. Some time early in the life of MY14 D4's, the camera has changed from LR023365 (superseded by LR043493) to LR051728- which I assume is the CAN bus connected version... I haven't been able to verify this or find a picture yet.

Hey guys, I have attempted to follow you posts and keep up with the lingo..
I have a 2011 d4 with touch screen and reversing camera. The lines are on the screen however they do not bend.
Two questions:
1) would buying the latest camera be interchangeable and therefore give me the bendy lines?
2) I do not have an option to bring up the cameras without being in reverse gear, however I can go into the secret screen and get it that way. Is there a way this can be changed in the CCF? Is. Add it as a menu item
Interesting thread.
Can anyone explain what the blue plug in the attached photo is for/ connected to?
Thanks

I had always thought that the bendy lines were for trailer assist and required the surround camera set up?
As far as a CCF change to get the reverse camera as a menu item, I've not seen one on my CCF editor.
