    D4 auto wiper hassles

I couldnt trick my auto wipers to work today on a trip over to Narrogin, had to have them on slow or do single wipes. Are they known to be a bit finniky??????
It was light drizzle, enough that you would have normal intermittent wipers on their slowest setting, then it was a bit heavier.Put the switch in the auto position they would not work, adjusting the wipe speed(sensitivity setting in book) only invoked a single swipe.
I visited Chazza and on startup normality seemed to resume,it was raining properly now, even adjusting sensitivity worked. They worked OK on the Geraldton trip,on a previous Collie trip they worked OK but swept occasionally on a dry screen.
    Windscreen is clean,no bugs either.

Andy I could write a book on the weird ... er characterful ... things mine has done over the years. Almost always my wipers are perfect and make life easier, but on some rare days they just don't want to get out of bed and I have to stoop to operating the wipers like some pleb car ... haha ! I am sure that some film or suchlike gets on the screen. Sorry that's not helpful, but there it is.

Yeah mine are pretty ordinary to apparently from a previous post about 6 months ago everyone seems to have issues with them!!

The other day it was raining and there is just no consistency with them sometimes they go good then they stop so you adjusting the sensitivity then they go flat out then slow down and flat out, there just silly!!

Ive had many cars with auto wipers and LRs seem to be about the worst sadly haha!!

I use Rain-X. Very rarely use the wipers at all - only for the occasional manual swipe in drizzle at low speeds in the city.

Once the amount of rain is sufficient, or the vehicle speed is sufficient - you don't need the wipers at all.

When I do use the wipers, it's never on "auto" - though I have tried them on auto in the city and they seem to work as designed.
    Cheers .........

I removed the fuse for the rain sensor so auto is now old-style variable intermittent.

I use auto....and have never had any problems, except for the rare occasional wipe when there is no rain in sight.

Mine are a bit annoying at times ... but I rarely notice... I just automatically tweak.

One thing to consider is that the wiper speed varies dependent upon the speed at which the car is travelling too and this adds to the confusion about whether they are working correctly or not.

Mine also seem to work well sometimes but not at others. I put them on the lowest setting because they come on when the screen is dry too much for my liking. I mentioned the wipers at my initial service and the service manager said that the sensor needs to be kept clean for them to work optimally which I thought was funny given that the wipers wipe across the sensor area and it should therefore be clean.
