    Hi,

Can anyone confirm the BFG 265/65/18 fits ok in the spare wheel undercarriage and no issues with the tow hitch?

    (D4 2.7)

    thanks

It would be a very tight fit, in fact you would probably need to have the tyre deflated to squeeze in.
Removal of the factory tyre protector / heatshield will also be required.

I squeezed in 285/60 R18 LTZ Zion and it has an overall diameter of 799mm the 265/65 R18 is 801mm.

    Where to get Coopers

Hi, could you send a PM for where you got these Coopers. That sounds like an excellent price.

    Cheers,
    Scott

Whilst I was even considering keeping my unused Cooper AT3 as the current spare I was advised by the shop that they won't fit the BFGs as non compliant. Too big a size increase from the standard specs.
So back to my earlier consideration of the GG ATs Vs the Bridgestone 697LT. The GG are much cheaper up here, but as someone wise once said....'buy cheap, buy twice'

    Non Compliant??? why?
Please read these Qld regs, then find another tyre shop.

So a max of 50mm oversize permitted.
    763.2mm Standard tyre size.
    BFG is 801mm.
Load rated at 122 should be fine as the original tyres are not LT rated.

The speedo is more accurate with oversize tyres 800mm diameter is pretty well spot on by GPS.

    Width is fine.
    Speed rating fine.

    Aspect ratio fine.

In NSW these are our regs:http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...yres-18-a.html

    5th wheel

Slightly off topic but related to this discussion?

I am planning to get the 18? Compomotive wheels from GOE but am considering getting only four and keeping the 19? oem wheel as the spare. This is just to save money on the wheels because I am planning to buy an extra tyre to carry as well as the full spare wheel for long and remote trips.

However, what if I fit 285/60/R18's to the wheels? The spare would be a different diameter; 799 versus 763.

So would this be a major problem, driving on one wheel with different diameter until able to get the 285 tyre repaired and refitted? If so, the cost saved by buying only 4 wheels would not be worth it.

    Thoughts?

Yes it would be a problem! That's a huge size difference. DSC and the transmission would not cope well with that at all. Looks like 5 rims and tyres plus another carcase.

    5th wheel

That's what I was thinking, plus possibly the suspension ... "sagging" on one corner.

This may make your decision easier.
