    Slow response from reversing Camera

Here is a first world problem. Given that we and lots of our friends have young kids, I really love the rear view camera.

From time to time though, it seems very slow on the uptake. Most of the time it's 'almost' immediate, or at least quick enough to be of some use. Other times, it's so slow that i have completed the maneuver before it decides to wake up.

The problem being of course that I have gotten so used to it that I will ending up running into something.

Any ideas on how to fix, or why its so slow?

    Original equipment or after market?

I have an aftermarket camera that I wired up to a 3.5" tft screen, both wired to an ignition switched source so it's on all the time when the car is on.

I find that really useful as I often have the back loaded to the roof & can't use the rearview mirror

My experience is that if you first start the vehicle it takes a little while for all the ECUs to load and activate (inc.rear camera) such as when you first start the vehicle and immediately select reverse. But if the vehicle has been running and you select reverse, i.e. to reverse park, the camera display comes on almost instantly.

I agree, I have a MY12 HSE and have to back out of the garage. Needs about 30 seconds after initially starting before it instantly comes on. Only time I've noticed it slow to switch over.

    Cheers,

    I have an MY13 D4 HSE.

Same as the others - slow upon initial starting of the engine but almost instantaneous after that. I agree that it must be the systems initialising at startup. It's a heavily computerised car system so I would expect an initial delay the same as when you fire up a pc at home. I have the same issue with the oem satnav as well. It's noticeably slower if you select it asap upon startup versus if you select after a few minutes.

Same in MY14. But I find if I wait for the check lights on the dash all to turn off then select reverse it comes on straight away.

Maybe i'm just in too much of a hurry. This morning it came on almost instantly as it does most mornings when I back out of the garage. It's just something that happens from time to time.

I'll pay more careful attention to the scenario next time.
