I will end up about $5k ahead. Have to keep reminding myself that clearing $5k for a weeks 'work' isn't too bad.
But in reality, I scored pretty well on the car I got. Everything was perfect...Still had the new car smell. It felt tight on the road....Couldn't have asked for more, really.
There are 4 suitable cars within a reasonable drive. 2 are older (2005 and about $4k cheaper), but HSE spec, one in the same age/spec but less km (+ more $) and one is newer, same spec and less km (+ more $)
Not sure if I should go for the fruit or 60k less km. Thoughts?
I thought I had settled the decision myself, but one of the HSE spec cars has hail damage! It had every option ticked, including E-diff. Bugger!
Going to look at the other HSE spec one tomorrow (wife likes all the extras) but I might try to see the newer one with much less km on the weekend. It is a bit of a drive though.

Re-reading my post above, I pretty much made no sense. Just vomited a lot of information on the page.
Basically there is a $6k price difference between the two cars I am looking at now. The cheaper, a HSE, the other a year younger SE with 60k km less on the clock....I guess the question is, do I see $6k worth of repairs in the next 3 years?
All being the same (service history, condition, etc) I am in two minds as to which way to go.

At least this time you have some more buying experience. Take your time. Good deals come up but you need to have patience. I kept a close eye on the D3/4 & L322 offerings for about 6 mths before getting a great deal on a tdv8 L322. I'm very happy I took my time. Good luck with the search.
I think higher average km has its plus's. It means the car has probably done more hw km which cause less wear, and indicate it's been running well. A good service history is worth money when you sell imho.

Well. I just inspected 2x HSE (last night and this morning) and was utterly underwhelmed to say the least. If the any of the vehicles I looked at are owned by a member, I mean no offence.
My expectations may be unreasonably high. I am starting to think that the car I had was an exceptional example.
These two vehicles (one of similar km to mine and the other significantly lower) didn't feel as tight or anywhere near as clean (in the sense of wear and tear).
I was expecting to be wowed by the one with low kms, so that came as a complete shock. There are a few more possibilities, but the market seems quite barren at the moment.
So, anyone have an exceptional diesel SE (with leather) that they want to sell for a great price?

My choice would be the year younger with 60k less on the clock, with some negotiation you might get the $6k delta down a bit when the seller knows you are serious, also depends on how keen they are to sell, how long it has been on the market, etc etc. Both diesels I am presuming..........

Just to close this thread off (touch wood) I just paid a deposit on a 2006 HSE Diesel with 130K on the clock. Should get it Friday next week after it gets a service and a couple of little issues sorted.
Happy again....but frustrated every day I have to get into the sh#%$y iMax rental car...
