9.7 l/100

For tax purposes I record my fuel and km's travelled. Over the tax year 13/14 my vehicle, D4 HSE SDV6 clocked up 36,168km and used 4331L of fuel for an average of 8.35km per litre.

Most of the time I am the only occupant in the vehicle and it is not loaded up with lots of stuff. I travel almost exclusively country highway km's mainly to and from work a 120km round trip on basically flat country travelling at the posted speed limits.

My D4 had 61683km on the clock at the start of the year and finished with in the high 90's so the motor would / should be well loosened up.

I am very happy with the way the vehicle performs, albeit, I wish the fuel tank was a little larger, say 90L. No, I don't want a long range tank or rear swing away thingy on the back to annoy me.

I'll agree there wish they had a 100L tank that would be perfect, as I'm the same don't want a swing bar or anything.

Yeah Nat_89 I reckon 100L would be great. I would also like to know how some of the other guys go with their fuel performance (not really economy is it?) once they take some readings rather than rely on the Trip Computer.

I've tracked every litre that's gone into the tank. 10.4 over 36k, all figures available on fuelly.com I too usually drive one up unladen. Very rare commutes to work, mostly highway. I drive for economy, clearly I'm not very good at that. I love the car but those who get in the low nines have me scratching my head at how they do it.

Tyre pressures have a lot to do with economy, I see around 10s when down at 32psi and as good as 8.7 at 38-40psi. Trip computer read outs.

BP is supposed to be the best quality fuel which I assume means the cleanest as all fuel has to meet the same standards re. octane etc.

x2. I am running 40 psi on 20" wheels at the moment in an attempt to stop my tires wearing on the inside. Currently down to 8.5L on the trip computer (9.0 real world). At 30-35 psi it was probably more like 9.5 real world.

This fuel consumption of 12l/100km is more like what I get out of my 2010 3.0TDIV6 SE. I don't see how you all can be getting well under 10l/100km real measurements (not trip computer). I usually get around 1400km out of 165l, which is about 11.8l/100km. This is the same on country runs or our normal city driving.

There's plenty of reasons why some people are getting better economy than others... For example:
-The 2.7 TDV6 seems to get better real world economy figures than the 3.0 in spite of the official numbers.
-The slightly lighter and more aerodynamic RRS is included in the mix.
-Probably a lot depends on the driver and what one's definition of city driving is. Here in Adelaide we do get stop start traffic but it's not as bad as what you see in Sydney and Melbourne.
-Tire pressures and type of tire.
-General maintenance of the vehicle.
-Modifications ie bullbars, roof racks make a big difference too.

It would be dead set perfect 100L just that bit extra to make the longer trips with less stopping surely they can find an extra 18L of room under there!! I dont really monitor mine i just fill up and go hard as i love the performance but i do a quick check each tank and probably on the highway average 10.2L/100 I'm guessing but i do hook and overtake with some speed when needed also do a few traffic light drags as i love the performance just makes you want to have fun!! Haven't done a really long trip thats over 350kms to see how it goes on a long highway drive. Normally its only me and my partner and sometimes we do a trip up to 350kms to Airlie Beach then drive around. So haven't checked a long trip to see how much i could go on the highway. Fingers crossed soon will happen.
