    Painting a D4

Is there anything special about the paint, or the way it's' applied, on a D4? I had our D4 in at Suncorp's temporary assessment centre over the weekend to get some minor hail damage looked at from the Brisbane storm a couple of weeks ago. One of the hail stones has chipped the paint, so the roof will need re-painting after the dents are pushed out. THE PDR guys said they couldn't do it, and muttered something about it having to go back to Land Rover to be re-painted - I didn't really catch what he was saying before he wandered off to assess the next car. The Suncorp guy then sent me to the next shed, where the panel beaters had a look at it and didn't seem to have any issues with repairing the damage.

So is there anything odd or different about Land Rover paint jobs that reaquires some sort of specialist attention?

    Cheers

    Nothing super special...
A reputable panel shop won't have a problem.
LR have "preferred/certified" repairers in each state.

That is exactly what I did.

The car was at the dealers for a service, and I asked them about the panel damage. They took it around the corner to their preferred repairer.

There were no issues with any of the repainting required.

If you have a choice, then speak to the dealer's service centre, and see who they recommend. Evidently, it is not uncommon for a brand new car to have already had some cosmetic work done before it is delivered...

the paint is 2 pack paint like any other car. any crash repairer can repair and paint them. just stick with approved repairers either approved by insurance companies or car manufacturers. the assessor that suggested it has to go back to landrover to be repainted should not be an assessor at all as he obviously does not know his stuff. (scary thought that some of them were not painters/panel beaters ever in their lives)
    fully qualified spray painter here
