It was just a matter of undoing the 3 screw fixings on the underside of the steering column plastic cover, then prising apart the top and bottom plastic sections. I didn't fully remove the bottom section.. Just rotated it down so I could see the available space between it and the steering column to select the spot to drill the hole for the dial and push button switch..(to ensure no obstructions behind) The cables were easy to feed past the steering column when the plastic covers were apart.
