    Disco 4 not starting but battery is charged

    We are having some trouble with our Disco 4. On Christmas eve it wouldn't start, we thought someone had just left a door open so jump started it. When we went to start it later the same day it wouldnt start again, so jump started it again and left the car running for a few hours. Still would not start so out battery on a battery charger to check it, fully charged and working ok. Vehicle still wont start, engine does not crank at all. Internal lights work.

    Cant get to a dealer until at least Monday. Any suggestions as to what might be wrong??

    The battery may have an internal break or there could be a bad battery power or earth connection. Can you cause some current to be drawn, perhaps turning on the headlights and if they operate then try starting the engine? That might provide pointers to whether there's a bad contact or a failed battery.

    When jump-starting was the negative jumper lead connected directly to the battery terminal or to the body? If to the battery then the current monitor attached to the negative terminal may have been damaged although I don't think that would stop the engine from cranking.

    Are there any messages displayed in the instrument cluster?

    I had the same issue this time last year so I called Roadside Assist (1800 819 181) and they replaced the battery on the spot and reset all the electronics. No problems since.

    Thank you. Have tried starting with lights on but makes no difference. Have rung Landrover assist and they have promised to send a diagnostic person out tomorrow so will take it from there. We did get them out the other day but they just jump started, when we rang today we mentioned your experience Liam so lets hope we have the same result.

    I think what Graeme mentioned above and also your battery may be fully charged - on or over 12.6V but CCA - cold cranking amps may be dangerously low in which case replacing the battery will fix those issues.

    If RACV or someone other than a dealer is fitting a battery make sure they have tightened the battery leads properly and reset battery monitoring(if it has battery monitoring on it)

    Had a customer in last Wednesday with a total power loss issue and he had to pay for a replacement battery and come in later to get the battery to alternator, starter cable and battery to fuse box cable because some one had fitted a new battery and not tightened the positive lead so it sparked and melted the battery case causing various electrical issues and fault codes.
