    Engine light bendigo

    Hi all,
Engine light (red exclamation mark) in our 2010 disco 4 came on not far from home. Have limped home to Bendigo, RACV didn't have a scan tool but have offered 50km of towing, 100km it we upgrade. Tips as to which leocal mechanic vs getting it to melbourne (? Reputable dealer) to be looked at/fixed? I think I recall an independent being somewhere in country VIC between Bendigo and melbourne but can't remember where.
    Cheers in advance,
    J

There was one in Romsey but the owner fell off the perch a couple of years back. Not sure if it is still operating.

Just did a search and it looks like it is. A lot of the smaller places tend to close down for Christmas new year.

    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Have you restarted the engine as sometimes such faults are only temporary? It may clear then re-appear later though.

Bendigo Mazda are also "agents" for Landrover, Ive sourced a few genuine parts from there.
Not sure what scan tool equip they have but it could be worth a call if you are stuck Monday.
    Good luck

Thanks to all for the help flowing in, especially for calls being made to brothers specifically to try to help.
Tried to hook it up to my brother in laws diagnostic machine - but its a VW/Audi one and didn't pick up the error.
Have definitely turned the engine on and off a few times - its definitely a pretty hard-core code and says 'Engine systems failure' on the display (sounds ominous).
I think I'll go somewhere local and RACV can foot the towing bill - though I'll look up these Romsey guys too.
If anyone has a diagnositic scanner in the area I'd love to borrow it (a six-pack of your fave would be a minimum repayment) as a lot of these local mechanics don't go back til the 5th regardless of who I choose...
    Thanks again.

I would at least try a hard reset.
Open bonnet turn car off remove key wait for the car to go to sleep remove battery terminals and join them together (may need a screw driver for this) wait a minute then put back on battery and see if fault has gone.
If you have aux battery make sure it also has negative lead removed before touching terminals together.
Will be hard fault if this does not work.
Also check brake light bulbs and brake light switch.
    Good luck

Hi, sorry for the lack of feedback.
In fact I've done nothing yet! Car is still in the garage.
My last problem like this resulted in a simple but costly mass airflow sensor needing replacement. At $515 I couldn't help but wish I'd bought a scanner and replaced it myself.
So.. My brother in law has ordered a scanner, which arrives tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes.
If we can't fix, I've decided to call the Mazda dealer here which also apparantly is an official service agent. I've had several things go wrong with this car since owning it for 4 months so feel it's time for an official agent to have a look.. Might help if i then need to talk to Land Rover australia about why a 2010 vehicle seems to be costing me $500 every couple of months.. We do have 'fit for purpose' laws in this country...
    Will keep you posted
