I bought the copper for the bolts of my tractor's dual wheels that are only fitted for a few weeks each year for sowing. However the copper caused too much interference so had to remove it to use grease instead. The thread is very fine for the bolt size so maybe copper is OK for coarser threads.
The gearbox changes are super smooth now. I hadn't noticed the gradual deterioration and didn't think its operation was anything other than normal. The oil was only tarnished but judging by the improvement it had lost some of its qualities so will change it earlier next time.
