    Auto-safe half-height cargo barrier

    Hi there,

I was down at Autosafe today getting measured up for a cargo barrier. It will have to be customised because of the draw system that I finally got finished before Christmas.

The guy said that it would be connected back to some anchor points at the back, underneath the trim that houses the rear light. I thought they used the grab handles to anchor to but forgot to ask about it at the time.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I want to be able to remove and refit as required.

They use a couple of holes underneath the trim on the roof just inside the upper the tailgate - the bit that the interior light is in. A couple of short arms stick out between the trim and the roof lining. It's very neat and nothing visible if removed.

    Cheers,
    Jon

Where they go under the trim, mine have bolts there allowing for the barrier to be easily removed again without the trim being removed.

Yep as above, very easy to remove and refit, takes about 10 minutes to remove and maybe 15 to refit.

As a hint it is easiest to remove it through the rear passenger door rather than try and get it out through the back.

    Hi all,

Anyone happy to share the costs you are getting these at? Best price I can find over here in Perth for a half height is $650 (supply only).

Also another question - does the barrier have holes to allow for child seat restraints to pass through the barrier?

    Cheers,

    Matt

    Hi Matt.
I am paying $625 (plus fitting) for a full height barrier in Bunbury. When I priced a half height barrier a couple of months ago, it was about the same price. I spoke to Autosafe in Melbourne who said that the half height barrier used the same frame as the full barrier, they just don't install the mesh in the lower area.

It was not worth me specifically ordering a half height barrier. I am getting a full barrier installed and then I intend to cut out a lower section in the centre and fold down the centre seat only when required.

The child seat restraints are in the back of the rear seats, so the belts do not need to go through the barrier itself.

I'm paying 550 for the half height which excludes fitting. That's directly from Autosafe in Boronia. I elected to fit myself so I can get familiar with re-fit and removal.

I believe it was to be around 620 fitted.

There is a full Milford barrier for sale brand new in the 'Markets' section for less last time I checked.

Method of removing the plastic trim?

    Hi All,

I am going to order one of these but as there is no 'installer' nearby I will have to do so myself.

In preparation, I have had a bit of a 'fiddle' with the plastic trim inside the upper tailgate that the light is in. I am not too keen to force it in the wrong direction.

Anyone got any tips on the best way of removing it to get to the holes for the short arms to screw into.

    Thanks in advance,

    Pat
