Looks like my EGR is on the way out

so seems I've gotten over my Christmas tree lights issue (seemed to be an issue with battery voltage I think, as ive done nothing but drive the car more therefore keeping the battery voltage up)
but now I have a persistent check engine light which is for an EGR fualt (sorry guys forgot the code) weve cleared it using the scan tool and it it just comes back, then other days it decides to dissapear for a few days.

performance of the car seems no different nor does fuel consumption. . .
what my best bet? blank the EGR? replace the EGR?

also i think my hand brake switch is on the way out, sometimes I get a blinking orange P light when I go to drive off and I swear ive taken the Park brake off. . . thats a seperate issue though (or is it?)

    2008 D3 TDV6 'S' model for reference with 190,000kms on the clock.

    Thanks
    Leroy.

It would be worth adjusting the parking brake shoes and cleaning them out to see if it fixed the park brake issue. I believe that MY2008 onwards EGR cannot be blanked and removed without an error. Garrycol has posted some stuff on his novel solution. My 2008D3 has never had an issue with EGR but I normally do at least 60KM once it is started, it seems that running around town is not kind to the EGR valves.

Ill look into adjusting the park brake pads, cheers.

Maybe I should just pull the EGR and give it a clean out?

currently the D3 is only going two 6km trips a day to the train station and back and maybe 100km on weekends. . .

which is what mine does as well. I'd suggest checking that battery voltage first ....

Might check it again at rest and charge and see whats going on there.

doubt that would be responsible for my EGR fault codes though? normally battery voltage throws Christmas tree lights as i have seen on mine before (gone now though)

    Hi Leroy,
2008 you either have to replace the EGR valve, good luck on that little venture, or the other option is to attach the new EGR valve to the inner wing and just attach the wiring, this works however not a good selling feature. If the EGR valve is the near side one make sure you know EXACTLY where the dipstick tube comes out of and the route it takes down the side of the engine. It is a plick of thing to get back if you don't.

    Hi Leroy,

Of all the info I have read about this problem and appeared to be a common fault and the one that stuck with me was the first defence; pull the EGR connector apart and clean the connections with a contact cleaner and refit.

I had the engine warning light come on about 35000 k's ago, the faultmate indicated a LH EGR valve, I cleared it but it only lasted a few hours, I rembered what I had read, cleaned the electrical connections, cleared the fault and haven't had a problem since. No doubt as I have done some 278k in the vehicle it some day will need changing.

    Might be worth trying.
