    mobile phone cradle mount

    Hi all,
has anyone fitted a mobile phone cradle to their discovery? I am looking at doing something other than a suction to the windscreen, or clip into the vents. My old phone would wedge above the cigarette lighter and change drawer on my 2012 D4, but new iPhone too big. I did speak to a car stereo installer and they thought we could put some sort of bracket between centre shift console and trim at the sides near your knees, so a neater solution. Then attach a cradle to that bracket. Wonder if anyone else has found a better solution?
    Cheers

I started wit a Brodit mount for the D4 " ProClip*Land*654412*|*Brodit Rover&model=Discovery 4&year=2012 " (this link isn't pasting correctly try www.brodit.com and select vehicle from list) but I didn't like the way the phone was obscured by the steering wheel so trimmed of their mounting surface and formed my own bracket to position the handset where I can see it easily. Power was taken from the back of the lighter socket and the wire neatly fits in the groove in the dash pad.

Brodit also make a large range of powered and non-powered holders for most handsets as well as a low mounting bracket for the D4

Thanks guys, I like the fact we can clip something on without drilling!
I'm also looking at a Strike cradle and looks like that might be able to be attached to one of those clips.

Rufusking, I'm looking to mount an ipad mini in a similar location to your phone, using the same ProClip mount. Do you think the mount is strong enough to hold the weigh of a ipad mini hanging off it?

Hey Wombathole, probably not. My phone weights in at ~120g, the iPad mini is ~300g. If the iPad mini was centred over the mount probable fine but to be useable it would need to be offset probably for its full width. That twisting force will probably pull the clip out.

I have a Nexus 7 mounted on one of those clips. Probably weighs something similar to an iPad mini.

For highway use it is adequate, even good. For off road use it stays fixed, ie the mount does not fall off but the device shakes and wobbles around too much on the mount for it to be of much use.

I'd say you need this TR Swivel Mount | Phone Mounts | Strike Group Australia to connect to the Brodit/Hold my phone bracket, as that bracket is the right width for the 4 hole pattern in that Strike bracket

    Christian,
Being a Defender driver, I'm a bit ignorant of what a Disco interior looks like, but I do suggest you have a look at the RAM mount range of phone and pad holders. They have an amazing array of options for attaching to just about anything, including motorcycles, push bikes and aircraft. The resulting mount is rock solid. ( speaking from experience).

A bit pricey, but worth the money. You can get the components on E-Bay or try the RAM website.

    Alan
