Well, thats been a fun couple of days worth of maint

Decided to start the job of my timing belt change on my D3 on Sunday. Tackled the rear fuel pump belt first and boy was that a fun job. If the body ever comes off this disco while its in my possession that belt is getting changed then! Removing it wasn't that bad, I just struggled for a couple of hours to get the new tensioner bolted in place.
Then I moved onto the front main timing belt and also changed the oil pump housing while I was at it. Wasted another couple of hours of my life trying to get the starter motor out so the crank could be locked in place. Changed the fuel filter while I was under there as well. Front timing belt itself was a **** easy job, theres just so much dismantling required to get to it.
So all went good putting it back together, then the bloody thing stalled on startup after making a horrible noise. Forgot to bleed the air out of the fuel system Once that was done and a few cranking attempts its all good,
Then to top it all off I put in some new front brake pads today. Noticed my front wheel bearings are shot (both sides) with a bit to much excessive movement. Also found the cause of a very loud suspension "sqeak" that I've been trying to hunt down (ok I haven't really tried hunting it down I just had some time while I was playing around with the car). Turns out its not a suspension squeak at all, but an air leak in the front right airbag. Sounds like a very loud short sharp squeak while moving, and I got a long loud sharp squeak when jacking it up.

So I guess I'll have another couple of fun jobs to do shortly once I've ordered some parts and let the bark heal on my hands

Sounds like you have well and truely been bitten by the Landy bug, getting in and fixing/learning how to fix things yourself.
I did the same with my D2,and enjoyed it too.At least I have 5 years to come to grips with the D4 whilst it has a warranty.

I've always done all my own car servicing, never had a car with a warranty.......
I wish the timing belt was as simple as my old 1hz Toyota, I would be having a beer withing and hour and a half, instead I was frustrated for over 20hrs at least I don't have to worry about that job for a while

Makes you feel good though and you know for sure that things are done right , Got 2007 sport 2 yrs ago with 128k on the clock and have so far done or changed out -

    1) Front and rear timing belt
    2) Oil pump , old one showed no sign of cracking ------ Yet !!
    But good insurance .

    3) Front EAS valve block
    4) Front and rear rotors and pads
    5) Blanked off EGR valves .
    6) Exchanged the 19 " wheels for 17" wheels
Also do my own servicing each year .
    7) Changed fuel filter
    8) Fitted the trailer Brake controller as per Sniegies post .

Got a few spares to carry , Small air up kit from gghaggis Goe ,
Plastic coolent hose box that sits just under the front air intake ,
Spare stop light control switch , + oem globes .

Besides saving a heap of money and have had a good learning curve , it has given me a lot of satisfaction and learnt a few new swear words .

How often does the timing belt need changing in a 2.7 or a 3 litre diesel?

Only just starting to get game enough to work on my 07 D3 TDV6.

Small things like cleaning the map sensor and airbox sensor.

Next one will be to check the water housing in the valley of the heads, beleive they are prone to leaking.

I also need to fix/replace the washer resovoir but it looks to be a mongrol of a thing to get at so keep putting it off.

New airbag/shock struts later in the year. They seems to be straight forward enough.

I'll still get MR to do the services as they pick up things I would not. Trans will need a service next time too

Being single and only one vehicle I cant afford to spend huge amounts on it and can't afford to not have it serivcable. Joys of being a cranky old bachelor.
