    Flappy paddles

    Anyone using the flappy paddles for gear shifting on the current D4?

    I tried them in earnest this arvo and the difference in around town performance is noticeable.

    The biggest difference is out of corners, letting the car decide results in a big hesitation as it drops down a gear after the corner, with the paddles it's already in the right gear and powers away without hesitation

    Yes. I particularly like them on dirt roads where being in the right gear means you can balance the car on the throttle.

    Of course you can do that with the lever, but the flappy paddles are a lot more convenient because you can keep both hands on the wheel.

    Yes but it irritates the hell out me when it automatically does back to auto mode if you leave it alone. Pointless really.

    i use them all of the time, especially when coming to a standstill......extends the Brake pads life !

    I do the same thing sometimes mess around with them when slowing down.

    But most of the time my car has no issues dropping down or any of that i just leave it in Drive as i couldn't be bothered with them haha

    It doesn't if you select "Sport" mode.

    My father used to say that brakes are cheaper than engines and gearboxes and I'm absolutely sure that's still true today. Brakes are also easier to replace.

    I found them really anoying going up a very tight / narrow, very very steep and sandy track near Calcup Hill, as the track was like a mad reverse roller coaster ride with a lot of speed required and wheel work, when spinning the wheel around it was very easy to flick the a paddle, pick up the wrong gear and blow the whole climb.

    The have a place, but not a lover of the shinny knob instead of a stick.
    Plus something else to go wrong, sometimes innovation gets it wrong,
