We replaced our original 18" Wranglers on our D4 with the EfficientGrip SUV last year. We got 48K out of the Wranglers, but they were well worn and noisy by then . At our 48K service the dealer said we had to replace our left front wheel bearing, but was just the tyre.

We considered getting the Pirelli Scorpion AT, but as our D4's main function is to tow a 2.3t caravan we were concerned about reports of aquaplaning. When Goodyear had a buy 4 pay 3 deal on the EfficientGrip SUV we decided to give them a go. Ended up paying around $1000 for the four tyres including a wheel alignment through our local Goodyear centre (Caboolture in Qld).

So far they have done 14K and feel very similar to the Wranglers on the highway. They are very quiet and so far have been very good in the wet - we have had a lot of rain in SEQ in the past year. We haven't taken them off road so can't comment on this. They have been good on dirt roads without the van. The tyres don't have an aggressive tread, more designed for highway use. So far no noticeable wear, but as mentioned only done 14K.

Bringing up an old thread but has anyone since have fitted the Michelin Lattitude tyres to a D3/4?? If so what are your impressions.

I've had the LTX Force for a month now on 18" rims. I understand that they are not the same as the Latitude tyres and probably have a more aggressive tread than you're after but FWIW here's my opinion which is basically the same as when I had them first fitted. Obviously still very early days but so far I am pleased with them. Ride is very good and I would say will give swmbo a more comfortable journey which was a major factor for me in moving to 18" and buying the Michelins in the first. Handling is very good with excellent response and goes around corners very well. All up, a step up from the oem 19" Goodyear Wranglers in every regard. No heavy wet weather driving but no trouble with what I've driven in during the month. Done about 400kms on them. I also wanted a more rugged tyre after the Wranglers let me down with a minor bump against a gutter splitting a tyre. It was a punt to buy the Michelins as no one here had used them but the reviews I read were good and so far, I'm still a happy camper.

Hi Rick130.

Won't happen any time soon unfortunately. SWMBO couldn't stand an off road ride - she would be in a world of pain as opposed to the country of pain she's already in. I would love to do some off road stuff and really miss it having done some before in the car we had before we bought the D4 but can't really leave her by herself without a quick way to get home. Retirement wasn't meant to be like this but no doubt others are worse off than us. FWIW, my advice to anyone is don't leave things until later, you don't know what's ahead for you. We had a lot of plans but they all went down the gurgler due to her health going pear shaped.

The tyres and 18" rims have definitely made the ride more comfortable though so the outcome looked for was achieved albeit at a bit of initial expense buying the Compomotive rims. You can't take it with you so I didn't consider it a waste of money.
