Oil change by evacuation

To answer the OP...
WASTE OIL EXTRACTOR-6.5 LITRE- - Macnaught

I used to use one of these in the early days up north servicing mobile plant and equipment, good reliable unit, some stuff such as the Toyota Hilux required a longer dip tube. Later on I went to a electric pump which was even better!

and yes...
A lot of dealers use vacuum suction to pump the oil out, no need to put on a hoist or remove under body bash plates.

Sludge build up is caused by lack of regular oil changes and or using the incorrect grade/spec of oil etc (a short, simplified explanation)

Finally decided to change the engine oil today by vacuum extraction. Nearly all the tools Attachment 121078 no torque wrench.
Removed engine cover, attached extractor with 1/4" hose and clamps to oil extractor pipe Attachment 121079.
About 10 pumps and out out it started, should have warmed up a lot more (just a couple of laps around the block) but eventually all out after returning a few times for more pumps Attachment 121077. Looks about 5.9 litres to me. Loosened filter housing prior , now removed it and bloody paper element difficult to take out. Worried about damaging internals with too much force so off to see Shane at SBL Automotive at Acacia Ridge who just used a small screwdriver and levered it out, bugger of a thing he reckons. Back home Attachment 121075 replace new filter and housing, 25nM and a slight tweak, is that the +5 on the housing?, put in 5.7 litres of good stuff, start her up, no oil leaks, off for a burn and on return oil indicator is at Max and OK, keep an eye on that for the 200mls!

Reviving an old thread rather than starting a new one.

Regarding oil extraction on the 3.0 D4. I note earlier in this thread someone stated " the D4 has a dedicated tube to withdraw the oil".

Can someone please point me in the right direction of this dedicated oil extraction tube on the D4? thanks

Flip the image in the post above. It’s the spigot that the thin black line is running to on the RHS (left of radiator in image)

Mine is the 2014 3l V6 petrol and the extraction tube is located within the oil filler neck.

I used a 12v fluid pump off ebay. Worked really well.

Additional info: It has a plastic cap with a circular arrow indicating direction to turn to remove.

Hint for the rookie (in this case, I was the rookie), depending on pump pressure (I used the same pump as INter) you need to secure the discharge end, lest it spray hot oil all over the place.....

Though, even with the clean up, super fast way to do it.

Yup..bloody sumplez with the pump (thanx) ..we have a hoist..but much faster and safer using a vacuum pump. I secured the outlet hose as advised..so no probs at all☺

BTW my Patrol boys were cynical about it getting all the oil out so I measured it into a container and it extracted close enuf to 8l.

Certainly impressed me and my girls who are used to shuffling under cars on dirty shed floors😞

The extraction point is right at the base of the sump. I opened the sump once after extraction and didn’t even get a drop out. It works well.

Spent half a day in the D4 trying to get a UJ for a 2007 Wrangler belonging to the eldests son's mate.

Mmmm..even a simple part like a front UJ is impossible to get in Tas..even the Jeep dealer simply fobbed us off with an amazing statement that "there's no point in me looking it up cause I won't have one". He referred us to Hardy Spicer but they had none. Also listed prices varied from 200 bucks each...yes that was Repco😞.to 100 from HS..to 25 from a local bearing shop.

Jeep ownership is very difficult...this continues his parts problems with issues getting a serpentine belt..none in Aus at the time.

Sooo...he's gonna have to establish his own spare parts bin at home😞

Jeep is in pieces on our hoist for the nexr few days....but it
sort of makes me a little bit more confident in LR ownership😃
