    Oil pump recall.

    g'day all
I had to take my D 3 to a local agent to change the ECU for the tranny, yes I to gave it a drink when washing out the engine bay (note to self never again) . On picking up the vehicle the agent asked me if the oil pump or housing or something like that had been upgraded that LR had a not well known recall on them due to complete engine fails, and that he had a palllet of dead engines out the back of the workshop. This is on the 2.7 diesel.
    Has anyone heard of this?
    Regards
    Pothole.

Cant see an official recall for that
    Here is alist

However it is routine to upgrade the oil pump when replacing the timing belt and tensioner at 160K. The upgrade has a beefed up webbing on the boltholes

This link explains the difference http://www.lrautomotive.com.au/conte...ming_Belt.html

    Hi Pothole,

Yes this was carried out at no cost on my 2007 2.7 D3 last time I was in at a Landrover dealer.

Not a minor job from my understanding. One of the benefits to occasionally using a dealer!

    Cheers,

    Matt

Did the dealer do this work as a standalone job or in combination with some other work (like the timing belt)?

Im interested as I was about to tackle the timing belt replacement myself and was going to buy an upgraded oil pump

I have just re read the original thread and I got it a bit wrong - sorry!

There was a recall on the fuel pump (not oil pump). I use checked my invoice and it says "fuel pump replaced under warranty under action P021".

The oil pump housing which you were referring to is a known issue post timing belt change and so many people replace the oil pump housing while in there doing the timing belt. The oil pump housings are now slightly different and a bit stronger. There are heaps of threads on this if you google it. if they are doing the upgraded oil pump housing as a recall item I'd be very surprised.

    Cheers,

    Matt

    Hi Pothole,

Were you able to confirm if this 'recall' was for the oil pump or fuel pump?

    Cheers
