Where to buy a new D3 Key

I purchased a new plastic key fob cover, including a new battery and followed all web instructions and soldered a new battery in place and put the key together. Needless to say the remote key no longer works - have undone key and re soldered it three times - still does not work. Where can I get the key repaired or replaced in Sydney and what can I expect to pay?

Sorry to hear that, I have done both of mine and they work fine.

You can buy cases and blanks and have them cut, but if the electronics don't work your only option I think is to pay several hundred dollars and order from your Landrover dealer

Was they key working before you tried the case and battery change? If not it may be another problem and not just the battery.

Yes it was working and it was just the case that was worn. I thought I would replace the battery at the same time. I cannot see the contacts for the battery on the circuit board - not sure if I have damaged the contacts beyond repair when desoldering. Frustrating......should have left the old battery but did not want to glue it all together with old battery

It's certainly fiddly, the contacts on the battery feed through a hole in the circuit board and you do need to be careful you don't burn out the ring contacts with your soldering iron. But if you can get the old battery out cleanly then you just feed the contacts through the holes and put a drop of solder around the hole where the contact feeds through.

I did have to file the tip of my soldering iron down to make it a fine point to be able to do this. (I ordered a fine tip from ebay but accidentally nought the wrong size and didn't want to wait another week.)

If it's just the contacts on the circuit board you might be able to find an electronics repair shop that will have a go at repairing it for you.

Ive replaced the 3.0v VL 2330 battery in rRS key. I used solder wick and a fine point iron to get the old tags out, having cut them from the battery with side cutters

One thing worth trying is charging the battery by keeping the key in the ignition. I put mine in a drawer as a spare for a few months after replacing the battery and it got low. Took a few days of running in the ignition to recharge
 Worth a try

have you tried measuring the battery voltage? It might just need to be charged.

I replaced one fob wit h an ebay special. Not great quality and I had to drill out the hole for the blade pivot and reuse the sping from the old one.

Works fine though. Was going to do my other key but the unlock micro switch **** itself.

Being as though it is all surface mount componentry I am not going to dry and desolder that. Ok if you have the right gear to do it.

There's a few options for replacement keys listed in this thread that are way cheaper than what dealers are quoting:
