D4 - High Pitched Noise When Turned Off

    Hi all.

I did a search but got nothing (could be my bad search skills ) so over too the brains trust.

I've recently noticed a a high pitched noise when I turn the engine off. I only hear it outside the car and it seems to be louder around the nearside front of the car. It's like an electronic tone and goes away after a short while. May have been there since new (17 months) but I haven't noticed it before.

Any ideas before I contact my dealer - it may be some sort of shutdown procedure.

    Thanks,
    Martin

I don't really understand what nearside and presumably far side mean? I once read it had something to do with horses and mounting from the left or near side of the horse, is that correct?

I would of thought in this day we could just say the left or right hand side of the car, as it would be when you're sitting in it.

I must be old and old habits die hard My father drummed it into me many years ago.

Nearside refers to the side of the car nearest the gutter and the other term for the other side of the car is offside.

What happens if your facing the car? Similar to boats where you say port and starboard I suppose it is explicit which side you are talking about.

Martin, it is completely normal. It's the supply of power to the cars various electronics before complete shut down. No fans on any of the ECUs.
    Cheers,

Agree there they do make a lot of quiet noises when shut down the suspension levelling, I'm assuming some clicking is the air valves closing and then all the computers shutting down as you say.

I can't tell you what it is, but can tell you mine does it too. So either they're both broken or neither one is...

I'm all for Port and Starboard, as in Vessels and Aircraft. I know Vehicles don't have Steer Boards, but neither do Aircraft nor do many Vessels anymore, apart from Dutch Barges.
    Cheers, Billy.
