    Consequence of ditching Sound System

Hello, Getting my D3 ready for around the block with Caravan,
I bought the D3 2nd hand and it has no Aux input anywhere to be found for the sound system. I have looked at many posts of wiring mentioning down under the passenger front kick panel but can't find any pics or specific wiring orientation.
Our Disco is an early 2008 2.7 td SE with a very basic sound system and no linked steering wheel controls at all. I have tried running engine with the Sound System disconnected and the only obvious difference I see is the clock no longer there.
My question is from experienced people is that all that is affected because I want to put in a modern new after-market head unit with bluetooth and usb input etc if possible. Appreciate comments folks

The clock to my knowledge is the main thing you loose.
If installing a new unit you need to get a double din unit and the surrounds etc that suit the L/R dash.

I have the same unit as you out and joined a headphone lead to the back and use my iPhone thru the AUX on the stereo and works fine. Job takes about 45 mins if you are taking your time.

I will see if I can post the link to the thread that I followed.

    Cheers Ean

I can't post the link but go to the search function on the top corner of the d3/d4 / RRS page and type in " using aux on stereo" scroll down the page to the thread titled " iPod connection for SE " it's about 12 from the bottom, post #2 give a link with some pics I used that and it's pretty straight forward.

    Cheers Ean

As mentioned before by Ean - as you have the base stereo - you only lose the clock on the dash (between speedo and tacho). No other issues.

With the base stereo you can buy the volume control insert for the steering wheel and the wiring is all there ready to go. Insto-upgrade.

Yep that's the 1. I never worried about the phone, but you use the plug in the back of the stereo instead of the kick panel. There are 4 wires to that plug..Red, blue and 2 black, the 3 you remove are from the same cable that runs towards the dash next to the main wire loom. Its the Red, Blue and thick black, they all go into the bottom row of pins.

I couldn't work out how to get the pins out of the plug, so just cut the wires and soldered the wires from the RCA lead to them about 2 inches back from the plug. My cable had a red and blue cable and the shield wire around those to I twisted together and soldered that to the black wire.

The wire you cut at the back of the stereo goes to the passenger side footwell and terminates. Whilst at it put a USB lead off 1 of the power wires behind the stereo, that way you can charge the phone while listening to the music. The power wire to the stereo is live feed from the battery so pull the fuse out before you cut that if using it for anything.
