Thread: D4 side steps

If you aren't taking it offroad then the steps are good. If you are taking it offroad don't, they get beaten up, get in the way and apparently in the worst case fold up and stop youn opening the door. Get proper Rocksliders instead.

I had then and took mine off and replaced them with Rocksliders.

Thanks Andrew. Won't be doing much off road. Rock sliders? Never heard of those? Can you recommend some that I could have a look at?

There are a few kinds. Mine are Terrafirma. One of the regulars here Gordon (gghaggis) from Green Oval Experience makes and sells them.

But as you are not planning on serious off-roading then the Land Rover ones are fine.

I've got the LR OEM ones fitted and find them fine. Mainly got them for my wife to assist getting into and out of the car as she is disabled. They are good for that as they are reasonably wide and for us, rock sliders wouldn't suit as she needs something substantial in terms of area to step onto rather than a bar or tube. We don't plan on any heavy duty off roading so it's not an issue for us. Previous threads I've read point out that they can be bent easily if you get too aggressive. Horses for courses really and as stated in the previous posts they're ok if not abused. They are after all aluminium and of course won't take a hard knock that a steel tube would.

You need to get the ones with stand off bars or tree gaurds. Some make only one or the other, some you have to specify if you want them with or without, Gordon's give you the option I believe.

Do be aware though that Rocksliders that don't meet ADR for cars with side airbags may be illegal. I suspect most with the standoff gaurds won't be technically legal.
