    RE fuel flap not locking

I had a similar problem with my D3.
I found on close inspection that the plastic "lock" that flap hooks into, was not aligned correctly and had been pushed out of alignment.
Perhaps check that yours is sitting central so that the flap centers as it closes.

    Silly question.
Do you realise the door only locks when the vehicle is locked???

    Hi Rasinator,
If you open your petrol flap and shut your doors, then activate the lock remote the small black pin should come out, this is the bit that engages with the hole in the flap. Start there..........the fix is quite simple once you have removed the interior trim. TRS in Adelaide do a repair kit. There are three or four small plastic bits which on occasion break, plus a spring which you can easily lose....... trust me.

I've just had a similar problem. if you fit the new pin locking mechanism don't connect the electrical connector until the pin mechanism has been pushed through the wheel arch, the locating grommet won't push through the hole with the locking pin extended.

Mine is also a D3 I am assuming they are the same.

Thanks VBRAV , I "ll try and see if that works . If not i will buy a key locking cap probably be cheaper than buying a replacement of the dealers .

    Bit harsh don't you think?

If you notice how many posts L A has done he is here to help.
By the amount of posts that you have, no one knows what knowledge you either have or don't have.
So starting with the basics is always the best way to HELP.

Hi Sniegy , I did not be mean to be rude at all , as all i asked for was some help in this locking fuel cap problem and i know it used to lock before & now it doesn't. MY 2010 D4 over the years has given me some headaches but thanks to the valuable advise i have read in this forum i've been able to fix most of them. I've been driving County's and Def's for 20 yrs and my last was a 97 130 dc which i had for 13yrs [ with no cpu ] whilst learning from this forum how to maintain and fix them and also my sons D2 td5 . I have the utmost respect for all in these forums but i don't like to be made out to be a simpleton .
My apologies if i have offended anyone.

    Hi Rasinater,
I tried to find a locking petrol cap, I think unless the neck is actually designed for a locking cap you might struggle a bit. As you would expect the thread will be a LR special.
You sound like you know your way around the vehicle after the last email, fitting a new locking mechanism is pretty easy, for about $70 from TRS this would save you a lot of heartache, might be cheaper if you just want the locking mechanism and not the plastic latching bits like I did. If you do get the locking mechanism there is a metal clip at the bottom of the solenoid that holds the unit in place, if that flicks out suddenly I can guarantee you will never find the clip again.
