Ok I have to admit that when it came down to it, and considering that the Disco is now not my daily driver anymore, I couldn't get over the $150 per tyre difference in price and went with the D697s. They don't look quite as good but early impressions are that they drive really nicely, good in the wet, quiet and comfortable.
I got my 265 / 60 x 18 BFG AT KO2's fitted the other week - as quoted $390 supplied and fitted straight from Michelin Australia, not a grey import from Dodgy Tyres!
So far so good, as you would expect form BFG! Will give them a good test this weekend on the farm - gravel / dirt / paddocks etc

Just bought a set of 4 D697's, $338 a corner price matched at my local Jax centre. When I got the first quote from Bridgestone, they said they are running a sale on them at the moment. They also said they were being discontinued which is maybe why they are running them out. Anyone heard anything similar?
They have definitely dropped in price.
Fascinating rumour and not even close to correct. We work wih Bridgestone and several other tyre manufacturers and I just spoke to my tyre engineer and when he stopped laughing his reply as not printable but distilled was, why change some thing that is not broken

Local Bob Jane T Mart in Hornsby - they rang around the cheap tyre shops to get the best price and then beat it before I even tried!
I'm in the trade and spend about $60-80k a month with 2 tyre shops and the cheapest trade price they could do was $400 each.
