Thread: Engine braking under hard braking

Twice on the way home from Vic last Friday I had to pull the car, and 24" van, up in a hurry.
First one was for a cyclist who decided to play chicken with the 5.5t coming at him and the second time when a set of lights changed and I was caught in the go no-go decision zone.
Both stops were from 60kph and with the transmission set in sport.
Both times the box immediately went down several gears bringing the revs up to 3,000 and held it there till nearly standstill.
Is this normal?

Yep,even does in drive with a garden trailer on.
Yet another reason those with LED equiped trailers need to let their vehicle know its towing
Surprised me when I first experienced it,used to autos not offering engine braking!!!!
