Can you get wires through firewall behind main battery?

Well the job for last saturday was to fit the ARB CKMA12 air compressor under the bonnet, mounting bracket made, holes drilled and all painted before lunch

So next came running the wiring, compressor sits in front of main battery, and I want to run the wiring through the firewall on that side (passenger side), after 3 hours of hunting and cursing I am no further forward, I've had the battery out and found the large bundle of wires running through the firewall, but these come out behind the fusebox that is behind the glovebox and I can't seem to get to the rear of it, and I can find no way without major dissasembly to get access to this area.

So has anyone managed to run a cable through the firewall on the passenger side if so how?

I know about the grommet on the drivers side and have run power cables for the dual battery set up through this, I need this cabling to run through the passenger side, any tips?

For those who have fitted or have this compressor fitted where does your wiring go? and where have you installed your switch?

Hope some one can offer me some guidance.

    Cheers
    Andy

I passed a 50A cable through the passenger side after removing the battery and dismounting the engine bay fuse panel. It was 5+ years ago but IIRC I poked a hole through the big wiring grommet away from the wire bundle. I didn't remove the passenger fuse panel so must have been able to spot the cable (or draw wire) coming through from the engine bay side. Sorry but I'm not about to remove the fuse panel again to confirm my recollections.

    Hi Andy,

There are two possibilities on the drivers side. The grommet pretty much over the top of the throttle pedal , and another about 200ml towards the centre at about the same height. The one above the throttle pedal is shared and you can use a sharp wire ( or the end of a hot soldering iron if you are careful ) to open up another hole for wires. The other grommet may be the one you have already used, and is a std grommet with insulating filler behind it. Both are accessed by removing the rearmost cover on the rh side.

    Hope this helps. Neil

Where are you running the wires from ? My compressor is in the same place as yours but connected to the main battery, don't use it with out the engine running so not worried.
Bonnet is usually up when it is in use so switch is mounted with the compressor, too easy.

I have the same set up, works fine. Maybe OP wants external hose connector and switch to save opening the bonnet?

Be VERY careful running wires through the passenger side.
Have just heard a vehicle from ARB had its wires crushed in the grommet & destroyed "can-bus" wires in the process. Trying to push a feed wire through the rubber grommet & connected with the loom!!!
Vehicle shut down & was towed to a dealer

    Thanks Sniegy,

I wasn't comfortable with trying to force wires through the grommet, as I had no idea what was behind and being damaged if anything, so I settled for putting the switch next to the compressor. I took the supplied ARB wiring loom apart and removed all the superfluous wires - I have no intention of fitting air lockers - shortened it to the appropriate length, and got it running today. seems to work well, very happy with the install, took longer than I would have liked, but ho hum, it's functional and looks neat so thats what counts!

    thanks for the replys

Exactly what i did with mine. Got rid of "Most" of the loom & was a neat easy fit.

    Cheers
