G80 does mean something, thats the material grade that its made from. T8 or G80 would be one of the most common chain materials used for rigging.

Thanks - so it doesn't mean a weight rating then.

sort of, but not really. The weight rating is a combination of the size and the grade. G100 and G120 have a higher load rating for the same size compared to G80

No,its more like a circlip that holds them together.I put them on the D2 and left them on.I guess a centre punch and hammer is needed to split them.The same would go for Brians link.

The ones I linked have a rating of 3.2T for lifting,draging is higher again.

BMKal & LandyAndy - have a look at what I now have hanging from the tow bar safety chain attachment. They are the Hammerlok 3.2T - cost $37 for the pair and were a bugger to install. However they are permanently attached now and it is so much easier to reach under and attach the safety chain to them.
Thanks for your help - it will make our trip across the Nullarbor and up the west coast of W.A. that little bit easier

Looks good. Think I will fit similar to mine.

When are you heading across the Nullarbor. If you're turning north at Norseman rather than heading down to the south coast, give us a yell and we can catch up in Kalgoorlie. Plenty of room to camp the night if you're looking for somewhere to stay in the area.

When its time to remove them Im pretty sure the centrepin just hammers out with a nail punch.
If you are travelling Albany to Perth via Albany hwy you are welcome to park your van here for a nite or 3 if you are wanting to travel and see anything(Im at Williams,roughly half way to Perth).However,the best way would be down to Esperance,Hoptoun,Albany,Denmark,Augusta,Margeret River on to Perth etc,lots of spectacular places around the south west corner.

Thanks guys for your kind offers, we head across the Nullarbor on 22 July. We are doing Esperence, Cape Le Grande, Wharton then across to Stokes NP, Bremer Bay, Albany, Denmark and Augusta. From there we head up the west coast and go as far as Exmouth. Then Karijini NP, Newman, Mt Magnet, Leonora and then across the Great Central Road to Alice Springs.
We can't wait to see how the Land Rover handles the conditions towing a 3.0 tonne van - just worried about the crappy Goodyear Wrangler HP tyres that came standard on the vehicle.
