Removing a Rear Parking Sensor on D4 14MY

I have posted this before but had no responses, so trying again in the hope someone can help.

"I have just had an Outback swing away wheel carrier fitted. This required the removal of one of the rear parking sensors to fit the lock hitch. On pre 14MY models the installer had just bridged the terminals on the removed sensor plug, however he was warned against this by the manufacturer as another installer had done this on a 2014 model and blown the whole module. Apparently they changed the circuit in the 14MY models. Without this bridging the whole parking sensor system does not work. Any ideas? "

It is a shame to have to sacrifice a sensor. Is it possible to relocate it? Can you re-install it a few inches along the bar?

If it won't work in its new location it may be disabled by covering the sensor with a stick-on rubber furniture foot pad. ( At least in my MY12 D4 it can). It is also possible to cut one of these to shape so that it may allow the sensor to work and not have interference from the rear mounted spare wheel.

If you have a Faultmate, you can turn the sensors off, pain in the arse anyway, I've survived 40yrs without having them.

But that's just me, Freds idea is what most do, put a pad over the offending sensor.

I can re-fit the sensor module to its socket and tuck away under the bumper after sticking pad over it.. best solution... not sure how this works... just for interest would like to know.. I assume sensors are ultrasonic.. I'm thinking of buying a Faultmate or similar.. if the rubber doesn't work then I'll need to disable them as the warning squeal on reversing is sending me deafer than I already am!

You could ask your dealer to do it, if you get on well with them, they might turn them off for you, no harm in trying.
