I'd either keep what you have and spend the $$$ on it, better the devil you know or purchase a much lower km vehicle, not only 15,000 k less. Then you pay more but factor in depreciation.
I'm keeping my devil thats what I decided to do.
We've now had Lola (wifes name for the D3 HSE V8) for a couple of years, wish I could say it has been trouble free, but it is an Landrover and it was 8 years with 150k on the dial when we bought her, on the upside when she has been good the drive, comfort & average economy have been awsome. (We do most of km on the open highway between Brisbane & Miles, Darwin, Thargomindah)
The Cunundrum.....Lola requires a new diff & the trans is getting noisy, after spending big $$ (compressor, brakes, hand brake assy, water pump, windscreen etc) do we percevere or take the opportunity to trade up to a RRS V6 2010 135KM - Full service history with Australs in Brisbane...Wife loves the look of the RRS (so do I) but we've never driven one, just admired from afar![]()
Test drive is booked for tommorow in Brisbane any thoughts or advice would be appreciated
Cheers

I'm guessing it will be $30,000 + change over, which for me is a lot. It will probably be a nicer car than a 2005 D3. It's will potentially need the same repairs in the future ie 5-10 years old (same age bracket as your D3). Push them to incl 5 year warranty.
A very difficult decision. A test drive will tell you if it's worth it to you.

I'd sort the diff on the disco and wait until the trans needs doing after that. It's the cheaper option and you've replaced quite a lot of the spendy stuff already.
As noted above, there's no guarantee that the RRS won't need that work after too much time.
I don't think you can decide just on logic and data alone. As others have said, you may face some of the same issues with the RRS in the future.
But the interior and ride will be nicer and better, plus probably more features too. And then there's the looks.
Tough call and good luck. I don't think there is a "wrong" decision here, if the change-over price is reasonable.

Ex '77 RRC 2 door. Long gone but not forgotten.
I have a 2007 D3 2.7, done 320k.
The body and trim are 98%, with always had full sheep covers, and only a few road chips. Figure body is good for 15+ years.
New steering rack $2600 at 305k
Replaced trans at 310k ($8000 full job) only because I live remote and wanted to be sure it was going to be reliable.
In city I would have driven it to death, which might have been another 100k.
Motor still runs like a clock, does 11.2 L/100k average, but now have to do fuel pump ($900)+ pipes and bits +labour to replace (might be $1500 extra).
Reckon motor should still go another 100k.
Have been told that complete new 2.7 with new turbo, fuel pump, injectors etc is about $18,500 DIDO.
So worst case scenario is I spend the $18.500-20K and the D3 goes for another 10 years (by when I will likely be past driving).
If I were to trade in and look for newer D4, would likely have to add $30-35K (plus stamp duty to Government), and get something with near 100k on it and still have to worry about what might go wrong with new vehicle.
I'm staying with what I know, and accept repairs/refurbishment as part of running a vehicle.
Do you like paying tax? Still assuming my 2005 SE with 300,000+ will be being repaired as needed to 500,000 or so.
The moment you walk a nice new car out side the Luxury car tax and GST is gone and given you already paid tax on the money you used to pay for the new car you would have just doubled your significant tax contribution.
Happy to pay the tax just not double tax myself. That said I feel the pain of repair bills. A very intermittent suspension fault is giving me a case of the grumps at the moment. Over 800km on the weekend it bite at about 600km for 100 odd Km and a dozen stops to reset and one hard reset.
Thanks to all for advice, unfortunately.....got a call from the dealer when we were an hour out of Brisbane that the RRS had been sold to another dealer
Lola Beatle is still keeping the "Boss" happy for now, so no rush (if she needs a reminder about comfort I'll take her for a drive in the work Hilux)
Stay safe &
Happy Mothers Day
Cheers
