    More BMW rim questions

After reading the other BMW X5 rim thread I have some questions.
1.Can somebody please measure the centre bore diameter at the hub mounting face and the outside of the rim???

    2.Assuming I get 18" X5 rims,they "SHOULD" fit the rear only of a MY12 D4,correct?????

3.Looking on ebay, the rims run runflat tyres. Can normal tyres be fitted????

4.Do D4 wheelnuts fit BMW rims????

Hoping I could run 18" BMW wheels on the camper trailer without having to modify them.Seeing that you need a larger centrecap Im hoping the centre bore matches my trailer

Just a bit of a side track to this thread. I read in a recent 4WD mag (4x4 Australia Oct 14) about this guy in WA who put a set of aftermarket 18" rims on an MY14 D4! (and they weren't the GOE ones) He shaved some meat off the brake callipers to get the rims to fit! I assume only off the front ones. My first reaction was shock horror. Now I'm wondering how much he had shaved off... really sexy looking rims (KMC 18x9")... much sexier than Gordons..

There was a thread on that D4.
Im seeing if I can run the 18" BMW wheels on the camper trailer which carries 2 spares. They would be semi exchangeable with the D4 then if I was to run the GOE rims on the D4.

My 17" X5 rims have the same hub-centering dia as LR rims (approx 73 mm dia IIRC) and a bore dia of 65 mm dia where the cap fits.

There is no guarantee that another brand of 18" rim has the same brake calliper clearance as LR rims although I read that the 17" X5 rims have more clearance than LR 17" rims.

LR nuts are not suitable for 7" X5 rims so I suspect also not suitable for 18" X5 rims. Normal conical nuts are suitable for use on a trailer hub but long shank conical nuts are needed for LR hubs.

When I had 18" BMW rims they would not fit on my D3. The depth of the centre was too little even though the diameter was correct.

    Thanks Greame.
When I read people were needing a larger centrecap I was hoping the centre bore was also greater diameter. It seems its slightly beter than a D2 but still not great enough.I need 79.75mm to fit my trailer.
Best I forget changing the trailer and keeping to D2 wheels. Will carry 1xD2 and 1xD4 on the trailer.

I reduced the boss OD of 10" 1.6T hubs by about 3.5 mm (almost 2 mm radius) to take 17" X5 rims. The rim bore is deep enough to clear the bearing caps with the bearing caps just poking through the hole - no room to fit the centre caps.

BMW rim centre bore 'should' be 74.5 mm of i recall correctly from my earlier BMW days. It will be the same as an L322 rangie if anyone could chime in, and the same as stock D3

My van hub bosses were machined to 72.6mm to provide clearance for the 73mm ID hole in the X5 rim.
