    Software updates

    Good morning all

A real dumb question - I assumed that vehicle software updates would be done routinely with each service (when out of warranty), but I note in a separate thread someone paying for it?
    Are software updates an extra?

Software updates are free after the warranty period, if they had not been done while the car was under warranty.

Any updates after this if needed, you will need to pay for, unless it's a notice from Land Rover that it needs to be or should have been done for whatever reason(ie) safety.

Independents usually can't do software updates as far as I'm aware, only dealers can.

I know with Autologic they can reset and reinstall software. Not sure that they can do the software updates though can they?

Is there anywhere that lists the relevant updates for the relevant models? My last software update was at the dealer just prior to warranty expiry 2 years ago, and I'm wondering if there is anything worth updating since that time?

That was my thought too Andrew, I know Pete from Roving Mechanical has/had Autologic, I'm fairly sure he couldn't do updates, he could change things, activate things in the software, but I don't think he could do updates not already in there.

I spoke to Ricks 4WD on the Gold Coast and he said they can do software updates.
However, generally when the vehicle is older than 2 yrs its fault driven ie if an error code arises when they assess the vehicle, then they'll update that particular software.
Interestingly he gave the example of when the compressor is updated/replaced - it need a specific software update. And there are software updates for various things eg blue tooth with the stereo (model dependent).
After the conversation, I did have a think and wonder if their is no software updates post 2 years ie like for a laptop or smartphone, that improve performance (or decrease it!!), and is there a software update register? Are there updates we need to know of?

I know when I looked up my car on Topix it said there was nothing outstanding for the warranty period, don't know beyond that though. Maps are the big day to day one IMO.
