Bob, horrible news. Must have been a bit traumatic. As has been said, at least no one hurt.

I had a look at the recall notice and to quote it,

"What are the hazards?
Vehicle Malfunction"


Jeeez, what an understatement. Car burns to the ground.



Yeah, I suppose that is a malfunction.:angel:

just went and had the service logs pulled for my D3, HPFP has been replaced twice, once under P008 in 2009 and again in 2012 so hopefully won't have this sort of nightmare.

after reading this , i checked with LandRover today.My D3 is in the range of the recall however the steeler stated "bring it in we will check the serial number on the pump but at your expense if faulty Land Rover will pay if not you will pay for 2 hours " they cant tell me if the serial number is faulty by VIN

Why does it take two hours to check the serial number on the pump?
Do they have to remove it to get to the numbers?

Saw the dealer, they told me the same thing, there is no recall required on my car, even tho the VIN is within the range listed on the recall.

I've got it in writing - I guess if anything happens at least I have something to go back on?

TOPIx is updated by the UK system. When a local dealer submits a warranty claim for the work, the recall number is used as a fault code for the claim which flags the change on TOPIx.

The dealer can check the UK database themselves & see if a particular car is subject to the recall.
If the recall covers a VIN range that includes cars that might not be affected, the dealer still gets paid to check out the car, regardless of whether it needs the recall or not.
When he submits the warranty claim for the car check (if no work was needed), the UK system changes TOPIx to remove that car from the recall list.

Scott - did LR mark cars with the first iteration of the recall as "recall completed" in Topix? The only recall that is important was the last one (Oct 2010) - so cars which had the first recall work done and then marked as "done" - are still likely to fail/leak/catch fire. :o

IIRC, the recall started out as a fresh one so it would (should) have picked up the earlier cars again.
